Job SummaryThe Behavioral Health Specialist will provide clinical services to families and individuals living at Palmer Court. The Behavioral Health Specialist will work as part of an integrated care team to provide crisis intervention and will assist individuals and families in addressing behavioral health concerns with the aim of achieving stability in housing, becoming more self-sufficient and improving quality of life.

Crisis Intervention- Provide comprehensive behavioral health services to individuals and families currently living at Palmer Court, focusing specifically on identifying and supporting solutions to housing stability.
- Assist with crisis intervention, de-escalation, and other crisis-driven services as needed, including assisting with debriefing conversations with other employees and clients when relevant.
- Keep records, therapy notes, and statistical data as required and participate in research and/or special projects as needed.
- Assess residents' barriers to self-sufficiency and develop problem-solving skills with the resident.
- Assist residents in developing goals that will help them overcome issues leading to housing instability.
- Form relationships with individuals and families dealing with mental health and substance use disorders, provide psychotherapy, and participate in a variety of advocacy and case management duties
- Maintain a caseload of highly vulnerable residents, identified through a variety of factors that are regularly assessed.
- Assess urgent and high-risk clinical situations and make appropriate interventions.
- Assess the need of therapeutic groups and implement as needed.
- Collaborate with members of the Case Management and Property Management teams.
- Manage partnerships with community behavioral health providers.
- Attend weekly staff/staffing meetings and other meetings as assigned.
- Work with community partners to coordinate long-term services for residents once they have stabilized.
- Assist in providing coaching opportunities and increasing awareness of mental and behavioral health barriers with other teams.
- May join other team members to see patients in the hospital, visit them while incarcerated, and search for them in the community when needed.
- Demonstrates awareness and desire to understand diverse populations
- Ability to contribute to the Agency’s commitment to enhancing awareness and appreciation of diverse Ethnic and Cultural Heritages
- Willingness to understand that housing first, harm reduction, and low barrier access to resources is best practice and essential to our mission at The Road Home.
- Ability to set and maintain good boundaries, using Trauma-Informed Care as a guideline

Requirements
Education and Experience- Master's Degree graduate in a mental health discipline from an accredited university.
- L.C.S.W. or equivalent preferred but will provide supervision for a M.S.W. working on licensure.
- Advanced knowledge and experience in the mental health/substance use treatment field.
- Experience with individuals experiencing homelessness preferred.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse populations.
- Willing to be a proactive member of a dynamic and cohesive team.
- Ability to perform duties with flexibility, openness, and empathy.
- Understanding of and strong belief in the Housing First model.
- Able to communicate effectively and handle difficult situations with professionalism, compassion and from a Trauma-Informed Care perspective.
- Ability to accept direction from Supervisor.
- Ability to work independently and make sound, Trauma-Informed decisions.
- Excellent organizational skills and strong computer skills.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and be insurable on the agency auto policy.
- Self-starter and self-directed.
- Demonstrated awareness of and sensitivity to diverse populations. Ability to contribute to the agency’s commitment to enhancing awareness and appreciation of diverse ethnic and cultural heritages.
- Ability to lift 15 pounds
- Ability to sit, stand and walk for at least an hour at a time
- Must have a valid driver’s license and ability to drive a vehicle
