Veterinary Assistant: Job Description

 

Summary: Cody’s Clinic at SPCA Westchester is seeking an outgoing and dedicated veterinary assistant to join our team. Cody’s Clinic is a state of the art, high-volume, high-quality practice offering low-cost care to those in need, while also providing medical care for our Rescue Center’s animals making a difference in the lives of homeless animals.

 

The Veterinarian Assistant is responsible for the care of clinic animals and assists the Veterinarian Technician and Veterinarians in their duties.

 

Job Classification: Full-Time, four 10-hour days

 

Direct Supervisor: Clinic Manager and Medical Director 

 

Duties:

  • Clean and disinfect clinic cages and animal rooms.
  • Help maintain medical tools and equipment.
  • Physical, mechanical, or chemical restraint of animals for treatment.
  • Order and maintain medical supplies.
  • Assist with clinic reception desk.
  • Medicate and vaccinate animals as needed.
  • Assist the veterinarian as required in surgeries, treatments, post-operative care.
  • Care and feeding of sick, quarantined, and client animals.
  • Other animal assistant duties as required.

 

Qualifications:

  • 1-2 years of relevant experience preferred, willing to train the right person.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 60 lbs.
  • Reliable transportation
  • Positive team attitude and the ability to work effectively with the public and staff.
  • Ability to relate to and care for all types of animals according to accepted animal care practices.

 

Salary: Starts at $17.50 per hour, commensurate with experience
