Job Title: Maintenance Worker

Schedule: 40 hours/week 5 days/week

Shift: 8 hours, overtime likely

Union: Local 926 - Teamsters Union

Equipment Used: Fork-truck, rider and pallet jack, shovels, brooms, scrappers, hoses & sprayers, floor scrubber, hand tools, grinders (bench & hand), drills, arbor press and other maintenance/mechanical tools.

Materials Handled: Cleaning agents, oils & lubricants, paints, steel racking, various mechanical/electrical parts associated with building and equipment maintenance.


General Description Maintenance workers perform upkeep tasks such as repairs and cleaning. Department workers are responsible for applying basic fixes to equipment and building systems and ensure facilities are clean and functional. A worker should possess manual dexterity, physical stamina and possess experience and solid technical knowledge.

· Perform cleaning activities such as dusting, mopping etc.

· Perform repairs in/on facility and equipment.

· Check control panels and electrical wiring to identify issues

· Install appliances and equipment

· Do grounds upkeep by mowing lawn, collecting trash etc.

· Conduct maintenance tasks such as replacing light bulbs

· Inspect and troubleshoot equipment and systems (e.g. ventilation)

· Check functionality of safety systems

· Collaborate with workers and other professionals during renovations and major repairs

· Report to a facilities or maintenance manager for issues

· Basic knowledge of HVAC, plumbing and electrical systems

· Experience using hand and electrical tools

· Ability to read technical manuals and drawings

· Very good communication and interpersonal skills

· Physical stamina and dexterity

· High school diploma or equivalent

Requirements:

Specific Physical Demands

Lifting: Performed as part of some work activities. Amounts lifted may vary. Lifting of up to 35 lbs will occur on a rare to occasional basis. Lifting of up to 50 lbs will be performed on a very rare basis. Lifting may be performed from overhead to floor level. Most lifting will be from shoulder to waist level.

Carrying: Required as part of some work duties. Items to carry may range from 1-35 lbs. the distance of 1-10 feet and performed on an occasional basis.

Walking: Performed as a part of most duties. Depending on the task tending to, a worker may walk up to 500 ft. at any time throughout the workday. The work surface is concrete.

Standing: Most work activities or repairs to be made are accomplished from a standing position on a frequent to constant basis.

Sitting/Driving: Driving a fork-truck or riding a jack is performed from a standing position. Driving a Zamboni is performed from a sitting position.

Driving: Driving of the fork-truck and lift equipment will occur on a frequent basis simply to move equipment into a designated maintenance area.

Bending: May be performed as part of work activities as needed. Bending from the waist and at the knees is recommended.

Stooping: Possibly; however not a position usually utilized. May be performed at the choice of the worker depending on repair or job at hand that needs completed.

Twist/Turn: A worker may twist and/or turn as needed to complete job duty.

Reaching: Performed as part of most work activities. May reach many times in an 8 hour workday. Reaching is above, at, and below shoulder level.

Push/Pull: Pushing or pulling is usually performed as part of the work activity. A worker may need to push/pull equipment to allow a better work position.

Kneeling: Kneeling may be performed at the choice of the worker.

Crawling: Depending on job to be carried out, crawling may be needed; however used at the choice of the worker.

Climbing: Climbing is performed on an occasional basis when using ladders, etc…

Conditions: Duties are performed both inside and outside with no restriction on the conditions that the worker may have to endure. This includes, but not limited to, working on the roof in high heat, yard maintenance/lawn care in summer heat, working on snow removal in cold weather, and repairs in coolers in which temperature may go as low as 35 degrees.
