Key Responsibilities

Develop and maintain robust, scalable, and high-performance applications.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, design, and implement new features.

Utilize Java, including JEE and REST web services, for back-end development.

Implement and optimize front-end applications using JavaScript frameworks such as React, Angular, and Node.js.

Work with Oracle, MySQL, or Postgres databases.

Operate within Linux environments.

Apply Agile software development methodologies in your work.

Support the entire product lifecycle from requirements analysis to deployment.

Participate in code reviews, testing, and debugging.

Contribute to architectural decisions and the evolution of our tech stack.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field or equivalent experience
  • Experience: 8+ years of relevant experience
  • Must have an active TS/SCI with poly
  • Strong backend development skills and proficiency in at least one modern programming language such as Java
  • Experience with JavaScript, Python, databases, DevOps, CI/CD, AWS, GitLab, Jira, Kubernetes
  • Experience with frontend web development and application frameworks such as Vue, React, Angular
  • Experience with requirements tracing, acceptance criteria development, test case development, integration and testing process
  • Competency in Linux environments
  • Experience with software testing frameworks and automated testing such as Cypress
  • Experience with Agile and leading Agile ceremonies (stand-up, planning, review, retro)
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills both oral and written, including with peers, external teams, customers, and leadership
  • Ability and desire to work with software engineers, systems engineers, SMEs, designers, and users
  • Ability and desire to contribute to larger planning efforts such as roadmaps, identify opportunities and risks
  • Attention to detail and maintaining standards (e.g. code reviews, establishing formatting standards)

Flex Time

Northstrat does not mandate specific working hours. Although project requirements may dictate schedules, a Northstrat employee is only required to work an average of 8 hours per weekday over the course of a month. For example: John worked 12 hours on June 1st to meet a project deadline. On June 15th, John only worked 4 hours because he left early for a long weekend. John’s IBA was not debited for time off because flex time allowed him to carry over those 4 hours from June 1st.

IBA Benefits accrue each month in the amount equivalent to 50% of the employee’s monthly compensation rate. That is, the effective dollar amount of this accrual is in addition to an employee’s salary.

Profit Sharing Plan (PSP)

The PSP is a qualified retirement plan that Northstrat funds semi-annually on the employee’s behalf through the IBA in the amount equivalent to 25% (up to the IRS contribution limit) of the employee’s compensation. That is, of the 50% accrual in the IBA, half of the amount accrued is applied to the PSP.

Stock Options

Because Northstrat is an employee-owned company, all new employees are offered stock options. Employees have the opportunity to receive additional stock options based on accomplishment of individual performance goals. Stock owners elect the Board of Directors and are directly impacted by the success of the company.
