JOB SUMMARY:

The Medical Coder applies the appropriate ICD-10 code based on documentation and coding guidelines for HCC coding.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Work with providers in assigned area of responsibility to ensure compliance with dictations and documentation with patient's treatment, to include treatment plans, prescriptions and specialty treatment.
  • Summarizes all pertinent information into the abstract
  • Maintains coding accuracy in assignment of ICD diagnosis coding including HCC codes, modifier application and verification of CPT and/or HCPCS codes
  • Maintains coding productivity greater than 80% of the time
  • Ensure proper documentation is on file
  • Responsible for ensuring all claims processed through EMR are correct and compliant
  • Ensure all assigned charts are audited and billed; ensure that all billable charges are entered into billing system
  • Keeps abreast of and complies with coding guidelines and reimbursement reporting requirements
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • High School graduate or equivalent required
  • Coding Certification CPC and CRC in good standing with AAPC required
  • A minimum of 2-5 years of medical ICD & CPT coding experience is required, Family Practice or outpatient setting is preferred
  • Electronic Medical Record experience, eCW software highly preferred
  • Computer literate with entry level working knowledge of Microsoft Suites; Outlook, Word
  • Demonstrated ability to organize, coordinate, prioritize, and facilitate many on-going tasks at one time
