Job DescriptionJob DescriptionDescription:

Hospice of the Piedmont is seeking a Nursing Informatics and Clinical Education Specialist to train staff in the implementation and utilization of our healthcare information systems and general clinical education. This role requires a combination of clinical expertise, technical knowledge, and strong communication skills to ensure the effective adoption of EMR and related technologies. Responsibilities include educating staff and assisting in problem-solving to promote the implementation of healthcare information systems as well as other clinical education. The specialist will work closely with IT, Quality Assurance Performance Improvement (QAPI), and other departments as needed. This hybrid role combines expertise in healthcare informatics with a strong foundation in clinical education. The position requires flexibility, occasional work outside of business hours, and the ability to travel between our Charlottesville and Culpeper offices.


Responsibilities/General Duties (Including but not limited to):


Educational Needs Assessment:

  • Assess the educational needs of clinical staff and develop comprehensive training programs.

Training Delivery:

  • Deliver educational sessions and workshops on various clinical topics, including hospice care best practices and EMR usage.

EMR System Management:

  • Optimize and manage EMR systems to ensure efficient and accurate documentation.
  • Collaborate with clinical staff to identify and address issues with EMR usage.
  • Train and support staff in using EMR systems effectively.

Data Management and Compliance:

  • Develop and implement data collection and reporting tools to enhance patient care and operational efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and standards related to informatics and data management.

Training Program Evaluation:

  • Evaluate the effectiveness of training programs and make necessary adjustments to improve outcomes.
  • Create and update educational materials and resources to support ongoing staff development.

Staff Support and Resource:

  • Serve as a resource for clinical staff, providing guidance and support to ensure high-quality patient care.
  • Organize and oversee orientation onboarding for “in-field training/assignments.”
  • Work with all clinical disciplines to ensure an onboarding process that fosters inter-professional understanding and appreciation for best care practices.
  • Assess, plan, teach, and evaluate clinical staff skills to verify competency and autonomy in core clinical areas.
  • Communicate educational plans and needs with clinical staff in an effective and clear manner.
  • Support remedial clinical training for clinical staff.
  • Support preceptors in other clinical arenas to assure clinical competence in those areas.
Requirements:

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Nursing Informatics, or Nursing Professional Development required; Master’s preferred.
  • Experience:
    • Experience with electronic medical records (EMR).
    • Experience in a hospice or home care setting and knowledge of regulatory requirements in Hospice preferred.
    • At least one year in healthcare EMR systems management, preferably in hospice care operations.
  • Skills & Abilities:
    • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
    • Strong organizational skills with sharp attention to detail.
    • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects effectively.
    • Excellent communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 products and advanced computer skills.
    • Demonstrated teaching ability including planning, developing, presenting, and assessing educational activities.
    • Knowledgeable about curriculum development processes.
    • Self-directed, able to work independently, prioritize goals, and be flexible.
    • Strong commitment to excellence in teaching.
