8-hour shifts

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with maintaining classroom order through observing, guiding, and re-directing children as needed
  • Present lessons as directed by the lead teacher. Supports the Lead Teacher (during work cycle, enabling them to focus on instructional time without interruptions. Assistants work very closely to the Lead Teacher and act as their "right hand")
  • Constant communication with children in a firm, yet loving and kind presence and upholding a calm patient environment
  • Maintain classroom expectations during lunch, recess, group time, and transitions
  • Prepare materials and replenish classroom supplies
  • Assist with record keeping & ProCare updates
  • Set up workstations and snack areas
  • Maintaining a safe, clean and organized classroom environment
  • Develop positive relationships with parents, children, and colleagues
  • Meet weekly with lead teacher to discuss curriculum, lesson plans, issues, and questions. Communicate with the Lead Teacher regarding all aspects of the children and classroom. (Management)
  • Act as substitute lead teacher if the lead teacher is absent
  • Observe all school policies and procedures as outlined in the Staff Handbook and communicated by the Director
  • Maintain respectful and positive interactions with other staff and solve conflicts appropriately and efficiently
  • Managing physical care of children (including diapering and toileting)
  • Assists children with organizing materials and bringing tasks to completion
  • Ensure the daily care of every child by following all school/ classroom procedures and standards as well as all licensing guidelines
  • Maintain a professional self-image and project the values of the ministry at all times
  • Keep up with required training hours & certifications according to licensing
  • Provides a safe dismissal of infants/toddlers, communicates necessary information to parents, and takes notes for the Lead Teacher if parents have questions/concerns.
  • Prepare and clean the environment for the next business day and close down the classroom

Minimum qualifications:

Education/Certification:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • HS Diploma/GED required
  • Montessori Certification/training preferred, but not required

Experience:

  • None required

Knowledge, abilities, and skills:

  • Knowledge of the basic teachings of the Catholic Church, or willingness to learn through Faith Formation/RCIA
  • Knowledge of subjects taught, instructional methods/strategies, and curriculum differentiation
  • Knowledge of child development, learning, and behavior
  • Able to manage student behavior in a classroom setting
  • Able to communicate effectively in both written and verbal form
  • Able to work well with others in the parish & Children’s Weekday Ministry Community
  • Skill in handling multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Skill in pacing and differentiating instruction
  • Skill in motivating and engaging students in the learning process
  • Skill in organizing and relating information in an understandable format
  • Skill in job-appropriate technology
  • Skill in critical thinking and planning

Working Conditions:

  • Required to manage high to moderate levels of stress
  • Required to teach a minimum of a full school day
  • Required to work in standard classroom and ministry conditions

Mental/Physical Demands:

  • Required to lift or carry classroom supplies, books, furniture, and equipment to a minimum of 35 pounds
  • Required to maintain composure and avoid inappropriate displays of emotion
  • Required to sit, stand, bend, stoop, reach, grab, pull, hear, see, and speak daily
  • Required to perform repetitive physical tasks such as computer keyboarding, writing, and reading
  • Required to monitor students in a variety of locations including those with noise, activity, and inclement weather
