SC Steel, LLC was established January 2, 2018, as a subsidiary of FabSouth and acquired the assets of SMI-Owen Steel Company, Inc. on April 1, 2018. SMI-Owen Steel Company had owned the business since 1994 when they acquired it from South Carolina Steel Company. The Upstate South Carolina facility has been in operation at this location since 1952.
Job Overview
We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented CNC Machine Operator. This team member will fabricate and assemble material for most types of finished assemblies per detail drawings, in a safe and efficient manner while maintaining high quality. Performs at a highly proficient and independent level in order to achieve the set goals for safety, quality, delivery, and cost.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Measure dimensions of finished workpieces to ensure conformance to specifications, using precision measuring instruments, templates, and fixtures.
- Set up and operate computer-controlled machines or robots to perform one or more machine functions on metal or plastic workpieces.
Related occupations. - Mount, install, align, and secure tools, attachments, fixtures, and workpieces on machines, using hand tools and precision measuring instruments.
- Review program specifications or blueprints to determine and set machine operations and sequencing, finished workpiece dimensions, or numerical control sequences.
- Stop machines to remove finished workpieces or to change tooling, setup, or workpiece placement, according to required machining sequences.
Additional Responsibilities
- Working knowledge of computers and computer software, including Microsoft Office applications and Email
- Good mechanical aptitude
- Self-starter – able to work alone and in groups to accomplish goals.
- Ability to interpret data to come to conclusions when all of the information is not available
- Agrees with and subscribes to and displays a commitment to SC Steels Core values.
Education/Training
High School Diploma or GED

Quality – Focus on identifying root causes of malfunctions/breakages and put in place repairs that will eliminate recurrence.
Communication – Interface with supervisors and plant management to identify issues and report on successful completion of tasks.
