Qualifications: Must be at least 21 years-of-age. Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent. College background with related courses and related work experience preferred. Must have valid driver's license with good driving record. Upon employment must pass all mandatory Division of Developmental Disabilities trainings and maintain current certification in First Aid and CPR, Handle with Care, and other trainings as required by Our House, Inc., the Department of Developmental Disabilities, and Medicaid.

Job Purpose: Provides supervision, guidance, and advocacy for individuals with developmental disabilities while following a structured schedule of programming including volunteer, recreational, and life skills activities in a community-based setting. Required schedule: Monday through Friday 8:00am-4:00pm. Hours are subject to change based on program and/or agency needs.


What to expect as a Day Program DSP Floater:

Majority of your day will be transporting our participants to and from activities so you will be on the road 75% of the day. You will be required to partake in all assigned activities with the participants such as cooking, shopping, athletic activities, going to the movies; among others. Breaks are not permitted unless authorized by a supervisor; lunch/meals are to be taken while supervising participants. You must maintain an open line of communication with the individual's group home/guardian on how their day went.

Essential Functions

  • Provide billable Day Habilitation Services in-person or remotely in accordance with DDD, DOH, CDC, and state and local guidelines.
  • Supervise program participants according to the supervision guidelines in their service plan (may include line-of-sight supervision) during facility and community-based activities.
  • Group assignments and group ratios may change daily, weekly, or monthly based on agency or program needs. Maintain flexibility throughout assignments and follow directives given by Day Services Program Director.
  • Input Service Log into MyEvolv on the same day that the service is provided. If a situation occurs that prevents the Service Log from being inputted on the same day that the service is provided, the Service Log should be submitted on the next business day. Requested corrections must be made within 48 hours.
  • Required to bring own lunch on a daily basis and eat alongside participants; staff may purchase lunch during scheduled lunch outings in the community. If staff forgets to bring their lunch and needs to purchase a lunch, prior approval must be granted from the Day Services Program Director.
  • Participate in all scheduled activities alongside participants including but not limited to: swimming, general exercise, skill building, gardening/farming, fishing, domestic skills including laundry and dishwashing, and various outdoor activities.
  • Transport individuals served safely to volunteer site in agency vehicle. Follow speed limits and guidelines as set forth in the Our House, Inc. Safe Driving Policy. Requires driving on highways and long distances.
  • Completion of daily, weekly, and monthly paperwork including but not limited to: behavior record sheets, progress notes, attendance, toileting charts, vehicle inspection reports and vehicle maintenance requests, communication sheets.
  • Maintain Handle with Care (HWC) certification and be willing and able to perform a physical control technique when a participant is a danger to themselves or others.
  • Assist with maintaining and recording participant goals as outlined in their service plan, including recommendations for goal changes or difficulty.
  • Maintain appropriate ratio as identified in each individual’s service plan during both facility and community-based activities.
  • Maintains safety, security and cleanliness of agency vehicle. Takes vehicle to car wash monthly.
  • Maintains cleanliness and safety and security of program site, including assisting with general cleaning as needed.
  • Signs-out vehicle kits daily, manages and maintains gas credit cards as set forth by the Our House, Inc. Gas Card Policy. Must obtain and submit receipts to Day Services Program Director.
  • Manages and maintains allotted funds on PEX Cards. Must obtain and submit receipts to Program Director.
  • Assists with participants’ toileting needs which may include but is not limited to: changing adult incontinence products/feminine hygiene products, cleaning following a bowel movement or urination, and cleaning the surrounding area following a bowel movement or urination accident.
  • Subject to physical encounters with individuals served. This includes but is not limited to hitting, kicking, biting, and pushing.
  • Attends and participates at monthly staff meetings and quarterly all agency staff meetings.
  • Maintain flexibility by working with different program participants and at different program sites as assigned.
  • Assists participants during emergency drills as per disaster plan, as needed. Reports any hazardous or unsafe conditions to supervisor and/or appropriate administrator.
  • Cooperates fully with Our House, Inc., State of New Jersey Department of Human Services, and Division of Developmental Disabilities staff in any inspection or investigation.
  • Requirement to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including a mask, as directed by CDC, OSHA, state and local authorities. All employees must wear masks, as directed, while working their shifts. PPE requirements are subject to change at any time.
  • Clean work area and areas as assigned by your supervisor per COVID-19 protocols.

Secondary Functions

  • Demonstrates empathy and compassion towards participants.
  • Demonstrates respect, cooperation, consideration and tact in dealing with participants, peers, supervisors, families and others.
  • Attends and participates at regular monthly staff meetings.
  • Attends and participates at All-Agency staff meetings.
  • Advocates for rights of the participants.
  • Maintains accurate participant records in MyEvolv.
  • Maintains current knowledge of participant information.
  • Attends regular in-service programs. Completes special trainings to meet special needs of the participants.
  • Cooperates fully with Our House, Inc., State of New Jersey Department of Human Services, and Division of Developmental Disabilities staff in any inspection or investigation.
  • Assists with agency fund raising activities at least two times per year.
  • Other duties as assigned.
