Job DescriptionJob Description

As an Industrial Machinery Painter you will be responsible for preparing, priming and painting parts designated to be painted. Parts range in size from small parts less than one pound to large tables, frames and electrical boxes. Additional tasks may include learning/ helping with machine guarding and assembly, materials management tasks such as supporting the crib and shipping and receiving.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Review paint specifications on new job releases, evaluate and requisition supplies as needed.
  • Requisition needed supplies using historical data, knowledge and need in an effort to operate paint department in the most cost effective manner.
  • Verify and allocate ordered goods to proper storage areas in accordance with safety standards with the best interest of personnel safety
  • Assist with the selection and evaluation of suppliers for overall quality objectives and costs.
  • Mark containers so colors and paint type is easily identified.
  • Prepare parts for application of primers and paints.
  • Wash, mask and hang or fixture parts accordingly.
  • Use plugs or other means to mask tapped holes on tables, mass bars and other parts.
  • Prepare electrical boxes and enclosures accordingly.
  • Notify proper personnel if an item is damaged prior to paint.
  • Mix and prepare paints and primers properly.
  • Apply paints in a manner that results in acceptable finish appearances.
  • Allocate painted items to job specific areas or to the crib.
  • Provide job status information through verbal or written means to supervisor
  • Paint stock items submitted for jobs and inventory.
  • Paint electrical boxes, trough, and other related items for Electrical Department.
  • Provide cleanup and touch up as jobs are prepared for shipping.
  • Paint areas of the building as part of ongoing facility maintenance.
  • Work safely and keep area clean to minimize risk of fire and personal injury to self and others.
  • Maintain safety systems that are in place including air supply mask, paint booth and filters.
  • Support and encourage our LEAN culture

  • Be consistently at work and punctual; clock job times accurately.
  • Maintain an orderly work area and cleanup work area at the end of the day.

  • Perform all activities in conformance with the AGR Quality System and ISO procedures.

Requirements:

  • Knowledge of how to store, handle, mix and dispose of paints and chemicals in a safe manner.
  • Ability to properly prepare items for application of paint.
  • Knowledge of paint guns and application techniques to perform work of acceptable quality.
  • Ability to be organized and work safely.
  • Ability to identify problems and make others aware of problems in a timely manner.
  • Ability to work and schedule sequence of tasks and operations in a cost effective manner.
  • Ability to work with the Supervisor and others to manage competing needs.
  • Ability to drive a forklift and completion of a Forklift Safety Training Program.
  • Ability to communicate well in written and verbal forms of communication.
  • Basic knowledge of costs and deliveries to assist with evaluation of suppliers.
  • Knowledge and use of proper safety equipment for tasks being performed.
  • Basic knowledge of and ability to use hand and power tools as needed for other work that may be assigned.
  • Basic computer skills to be able to enter/track work performed.

Physical Demands:

  • Regularly required to use hands for a variety of tasks.
  • Must be able to work with hands, arms, talk and hear.
  • Must be able to walk, stand, kneel, sit, stoop and crawl
  • Good vision and eye / hand / foot coordination.
  • Frequently lift 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
  • Ability to manipulate heavy loads using material handling equipment

Work Environment:

  • Intermittent exposure to power equipment
  • Potential exposure to oils, solvents or adhesives
  • Potential exposure to dirt or dust. Gloves and dust masks are available.
  • Potential exposure to moving mechanical parts and electrical shock

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position, and typical work hours are Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Preferred Education and Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent

1-3 years of spray-painting experience working with primers, enamels, two part epoxies, urethanes and other industrial coatings.
