New York, United States Flutterwave Full time
Job DescriptionJob DescriptionSalary:

Flutterwave was founded on the principle that every African must be able to participate and thrive in the global economy. To achieve this objective, we have built a trusted payment infrastructure that allows consumers and businesses (African and International) to make and receive payments in a convenient borderless manner.

The Role: Flutterwave is seeking a Global Controller who will be accountable for all aspects of firm’s books and records including accounting, financial reporting, internal controls, accounts payables and receivables and procurement. This individual will also play a critical role in building and maintaining a relationship with external stakeholders, especially in the US where Flutterwave is incorporated. The Global Controller will partner with regional CFOs to manage controller activities in the regions. Given Flutterwave's origin and strong presence in Africa, the Africa CFO will be a prominent partner for the Global Controller. This leader will have an opportunity and mandate to transform the Finance function (People, Processes, and Infrastructure) towards taking the company to an IPO and post-IPO phase. This role reports to the  CFO and partners closely with the CEO and other key company leaders.

Roles and responsibilities, include but are not limited to:

  • Strategic Alignment: Design and align financial performance management and planning activities with the strategic objectives of the organization and collaborate with business and support units to ensure that financial planning supports overall corporate goal
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Build engagement models with other departments such as sales, product, engineering, marketing, operations, and HR to integrate financial insights into decision-making processes across the organization. This collaboration should foster a holistic view of business performance and enable more informed decision-making
  • Data Integration: Build processes and infrastructure that leverage advanced data analytics and integrate data from various sources across the organization to provide comprehensive insights into financial performance, risks, and opportunities
  • Proactive Decision Support: Team structure and alignment should proactively provide decision support to business and support units by offering scenario analysis, forecasting, and performance monitoring. This includes effective challenges and ideas/opportunities, derived using numbers and analytics to help business units make informed decisions to achieve their objective

What your first year might look like (Note: this is not a comprehensive list):

  • Build a high-impact team that can grow their skills and experience as the company grows and expands globally. The goal will be to build out a  team starting with leads aligned to business units and functions
  • Enhance the current financial performance management process by making it scalable, and granular to facilitate timely and actionable insights as a feedback loop for keeping teams on track
  • Re-build the budgeting process and associated infrastructure to be an effective decision-making tool (and not just reporting) that in reality models the business dynamics of Flutterwave. This will ensure the granularity that incorporates business drivers used by various business units and functions for measuring their own respective unit’s performance
  • Elevate the sanctity of financial performance management and budgets to orient the firm culture towards data-driven decisions

What you bring to the table:

  • 15 - 20 years in accounting and finance, with a significant portion in a leadership role overseeing global or multinational finance operations. Experience in the fintech, payments, or technology industry is highly desirable.
  • Strong proficiency in accounting principles, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and analysis
  • Expertise in international accounting standards (IFRS or GAAP), tax regulations, and compliance requirements across multiple jurisdictions
  • Knowledge of accounting software and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.
  • Prior experience leading and managing a global finance team
  • Proven ability to drive process improvements, automation, and operational efficiencies

  • A bachelor's degree in a relevant field
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills

  • Passion for new technology and/or emerging markets' potential
