The Neurology Advanced Practitioner Provider (APP) is a certified, licensed nurse practitioner or physician assistant who provides comprehensive neurology care to acute and chronically ill and/or medically complex patients in the hospital setting.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of etiologies, risk factors, pathophysiology, and presentation of medical conditions
  • Demonstrates and uses critical thinking skills to synthesize and analyze patient data.
  • Performs a comprehensive or problem-focused history and physical assessment for adult patients.
  • Orders, collects, and correctly interprets and evaluates laboratory and/or other diagnostic tests to assess patient problems and health care needs.
  • Prescribes and manages pharmacologic agents and/or other treatment modalities with attention to efficacy and safety.
  • Identify Patients who are at risk of complications due to nutritional status.
  • Identify patients age specific needs and alter care plans appropriately
  • Assess family adaptation level and coping skills to determine whether interventions are needed
  • Formulates and implements comprehensive outcomes-based treatment plans using the patient assessment, evidence-based medicine, standards of care, professional practice guidelines, and in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team, when appropriate.
  • Evaluates patient responsiveness to treatment therapies and adjusts the treatment plan, as indicated.
  • Initiates timely consultation and referral, including with the collaborating physician, based on the needs of the patient.
  • Facilitates and maintains ongoing communication with the patient, family, and/or health care team members.
  • Counsels and educates patients and families regarding medical processes and treatment.
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and timely documentation in the electronic medical record.
Requirements:
  • Graduate of accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician's assistant program
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
  • Preferred experience of working at least one (1) year in the general medical setting as a NP or PA
  • Strong working knowledge of general medicine
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Ability to work as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Professional demeanor.
