We are seeking an energetic and skilled landscape architect / designer to assist with projects ranging from private single and multifamily residential landscape design to public spaces, parks, trails, and ecological restoration in our Crested Butte, Colorado office. The ideal candidate will perform landscape architecture, site design, site planning, and graphic design tasks in both a management role for your projects and in a support capacity for other project managers and principals throughout SCJ Studio and SCJ Alliance.

SCJ’s Crested Butte office is the newest addition to the SCJ Studio Landscape Architecture group. Our fun and flexible atmosphere offers the opportunity to gain experience on a variety of project types while living in this remote mountain community. Our small office offers a lot of opportunity for growth and diverse experience through collaboration with our other offices and disciplines throughout SCJ. What you’ll be doing

  • Valuing relationships both within and outside of SCJ with strong communication. You will interact with and build professional relationships with clients, agencies, colleagues, and the public. In this small community, relationships are everything
  • Originating and developing design concepts. We’re looking for someone with strong design and graphic skills that can be expressed in a variety of formats and to assist in developing construction documents and specifications.
  • Following state and licensing standards. You'll meet all standards as outlined by Colorado DORA specific to the practice of Landscape Architecture as regulated by state licensure and have strong knowledge of local land use regulations and the ability to interpret land use language.
  • Conducting site visits and observations. You'll perform construction on-site supervision, review shop drawings, submittals, and RFI’s as well as participate in client meetings, public consultations, and presentations.
  • Collaborating with and supporting junior staff. You'll provide professional oversight, manage tasks, help coordinate schedules, collaborate on design, redlines, reviews, oversee the technical execution of work products, and assist in the development of programs, schematics, and concepts.
  • Ensuring project documents are complete, current, and stored appropriately.

 

What you bring

  • A passion for communication, creativity, community, preserving resources, and a commitment to high-quality work.
  • Innovative and well-developed ideas, a responsible work ethic with proficiency in hand and digital graphics.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in landscape architecture from a college or university accredited by the Landscape Architectural Accreditation Board (LAAB).
  • State licensure, or the ability and desire to secure a landscape architecture license within 3 years.
  • A willingness to conduct site visits of prospective project locations and sites actively under construction in all types of weather, with varying site conditions – this is Crested Butte
  • 5+ years of experience in the fields of site planning, site design, and landscape design.
  • 5+ years of experience in a landscape architecture office setting, collaborating on multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Familiarity with all phases of the design process from conceptual design through construction documents and interaction with clients, architects, engineers, and other professional team members.
  • Experience and fluency with AutoCAD, LandFX, Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office and Google Workspace in your daily work at your prior place of employment.
  • 3D modeling and rendering capabilities with Sketchup, Revit, Lumion, Rhino or other 3D drafting and rendering programs is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with or ability to quickly learn native Colorado flora and understand local materials and climate considerations.
