Job Description:

Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc. (HATCI) is currently seeking an Engineering Manager for our Superior Township, MI facility. In this role, you will lead the newly established Over-The-Air (OTA) Software Engineering team within the Vehicle Software Group. Your team's primary responsibilities will encompass evaluating, validating, operating, and managing production vehicle OTA software updates for the North American market. This position reports to the Senior Manager of the Electronic Software Department.

Core Responsibilities

  • Work with the department manager to establish a new engineering team, crafting its organizational structure, defining key competencies, roles, and responsibilities for engineering staff.
  • Define team objectives in line with the department's strategic vision, formulating both short and long-term operational and growth plans.
  • Spearhead the recruitment of engineering talent to drive multiple projects and cultivate essential engineering capabilities.
  • Effectively manage team resources and budget allocation, delegating projects to individual engineers and units while continuously enhancing their performance.
  • Proactively initiate and oversee new engineering endeavors, ensuring engagement, execution, and the delivery of tangible results for production applications.
  • Monitor program progress and deliver technical presentations and reports on key development milestones and accomplishments.
  • Contribute to departmental resource planning, goal setting, and the development of technology roadmaps.
  • Foster collaboration and knowledge exchange among teams through transparent and timely communication.
  • Forge new partnerships with internal and external project collaborators, such as universities, national labs, and tech suppliers, introducing innovative technologies and methods into production development.
  • Stay updated on emerging technologies and competitive products to drive innovation.
  • Cultivate a positive, collaborative, and innovative work culture.
  • Provide comprehensive technical support for pre- and post-production issues.
  • Lead and drive engineering projects across various domains of OTA system, including:
    • Pre-production OTA function test and evaluation
    • Post-production update validation, field monitoring, and problem investigation
    • Identification of root cause of problem, development of solutions/countermeasures, and deployment of the solution collaborating with HQ
    • Vehicle Customer Relationship Management (VCRM) data analysis to gain insights into customer needs, development of dashboards, troubleshooting processes, and tools accordingly
  • Travel both domestically and internationally, up to 20% of your time.


Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, or a combination of equivalent education and experience
  • At least 8 years of experience in automotive or embedded product development
  • Minimum of 1 year of people management experience as an engineering manager or supervisor
  • Demonstrated track record of leading engineering projects related to vehicle OTA platforms
  • Experience in software development for vehicle Electric & Electronic systems, telematics systems, controller units, or related products
  • Proficiency in automotive communication protocols and network systems (such as CAN, LIN, Ethernet) and in operating data acquisition systems such as ETAS/INCA and Vector/CANoe
  • Ability to adapt to an agile work environment with shifting priorities, demands, and timelines
  • Comfortable with both initiating new projects from scratch and managing ongoing established projects
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to develop and maintain good relationships with technical experts from headquarters and internal counterpart teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, or a combination of equivalent education and experience
  • Experience in automotive Software Requirements Specifications for in-vehicle network management or OTA system software
  • Understanding of automotive telematics systems, server architecture, and cloud services
  • Experience in automotive telematics data analytics
  • Experience in production software lifecycle, including requirements, system design, development, and maintenance of embedded software for vehicle systems
  • Familiarity with classic and adaptive AUTOSAR
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, C, and C++
  • Knowledge of Agile, Waterfall, and DevOps-CI/CD processes and tools
