What you will be doing:Under the direction of the Institution’s/Facility’s CEO/CMH/CMO or designee, Recreation Therapist’s duties/responsibilities shall include, but are not limited to, the following requirements:
  • Develop and implement specialized recreation therapy services to the client’s patients.
  • Participate in the Interdisciplinary Treatment Team (IDTT) and coordinate services with primary clinicians, counselors and other custody personnel.
  • Evaluate recreation therapy needs for patients with particular attention to activities of daily living, communication skills, physical exercise, and positive coping strategies.
What you must have:
  • Minimum of twelve (12) continuous months of experience within the last three (3) years performing services similar in scope to those defined herein in a public or private institution. Internship does not count towards the required experience.
  • All Recreation Therapists must have the required licenses, permits and/or certifications for the role.
  • Patient healthcare is of paramount importance. Accuracy in communications is critical to ensure timely, competent care is provided. Therefore, any Recreation Therapist providing services must be proficient in the English language and be able to communicate effectively with our client. All Recreation Therapists must be able to speak and understand oral and written communication. Accurate and effective writing in English is also required. Any Recreation Therapist who fails to meet the minimum qualifications shall not be permitted to perform services.
  • Education must be equivalent to graduation from an accredited and/or recognized college with the major work in therapeutic recreation, or in recreation with an emphasis in therapeutic recreation. The major must have included supervised field work approved by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC) or the California Board of Recreation and Park Certification (CBRPC).
