The Design Engineer will report to the Sr. Director of Engineering.  S/he will work closely with our Industrial Design, Marketing, Operations, and Quality staff, plus suppliers, to design and manage the development of new products and improvements to existing products from conception to production. 

 

S/he will create ideas, concepts and designs based on customer needs and marketing input utilizing SolidWorks.  The Design Engineer will perform engineering analyses, including FEA and product testing, to ensure products meet all requirements.  S/he will develop test plans and manage all technical aspects of projects including schedules, costs, and capital spending.

 

 

Key Qualifications:

 

  • We require a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
  • A minimum of four years’ experience designing and developing products, with an emphasis on plastic components from conception through to commercialization are required.
  • At least four years’ experience as part of a cross-functional (marketing, operations, quality assurance, and engineering) teams are required.

  • Advanced knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes including injection molding, extrusions, and assembly operations is required.
  • Candidates must demonstrate the ability to create new products, solve problems, generate ideas, and innovate.
  • Expert-level skills in 3D modeling and drawing designs using SolidWorks is required.
  • Project management skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize projects and stay organized must be demonstrated.
  • The capability to perform engineering analyses and tolerance analysis is required, knowledge and experience with FEA is a plus.
  • Experience utilizing a stage gate product development process is preferred.
  • Prior experience in patent review and the patent process is preferred.

 

Additional Qualifications:

 

  • Good written and oral communications skills are required
  • Individuals who fit well into an entrepreneurial, nimble organization and are accustomed to partnering with design engineers. 
  • Individuals who have global perspectives and experience, including outsourcing in China or India, would be pluses.
  • Strong Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Project and Outlook skills are required.

 

PHYSICAL & WORK ENVIRONMENT DEMANDS:

  • Maintain confidential company information.
  • Able to operate specialized equipment in R&D department.
  • Able to access all areas of the production area to work with manufacturing staff.
  • Occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Occasional travel to business meetings and trade shows in US and Europe as well as, travelling to Asia to work with suppliers.
