Position Summary: The Industrial Painter is responsible for using a variety of tools to both prepare a surface for painting and for painting the objects’ surface. Objects painted are complex large steel structures such as buildings, skids, E-houses, a variety of fabricated parts and components. The painter must plan out the job to assure complete surface coverage at the level of thickness designated in the job specifications and using approved standards.
Work Schedule: Weekend Day Shift works 3- 12 hour shifts F, Sa, & Su 5:00a - 5:30p
Essential Functions: Other Duties May Be Assigned
- Remove paint and finishes; prepare surfaces for application of paint, other finishes, or specialized surfaces, coverings, or coatings.
- Inspect and repair surfaces to identify any damage or imperfections that need to be addressed before painting.
- Read and understand blueprints, quality documents, and other specifications or customer requirements.
- Wash and clean all surfaces to remove dirt, grease, or other contaminants.
- Mask and prepare buildings, parts, and skids.
- Identify characteristics of surfaces to be coated and ensure proper preparation and application of coating.
- Mix and match paint colors, and other finishes according to specifications.
- Prepare paint materials and equipment used for a variety of applications.
- Apply various coatings including epoxy, enamel, and urethane paints, as well as spray foam insulation to a variety of surfaces using high volume, low pressure airless, and conventional paint equipment.
- Monitor and check quality to ensure coating is applied evenly and according to specifications to reduce re-work.
- Clean up and maintain all paint equipment and paint booth areas.
- Operate a variety of power and hand tools and equipment, including applicators, and pressure washing equipment.
- Read, understand, and follow all MSDS information for products being used in paint area
- Maintain painting equipment such as hoses, pumps, pressure tanks, spray guns, paint booth, etc.
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment as indicated by the assignment. This may include head socks, respirators, protective disposable suits, face shields, gloves, and others as necessary.
- Safely dispose of any chemicals or paints used in the paint process, and safely store all chemicals according to regulations including OSHA, EPA, and other local jurisdiction requirements.

Requirements:Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- High School diploma, GED or equivalent preferred, with at least one year's experience working as an industrial painter or paint preparation technician, or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
- At least 6 months of training or education in painting at a recognized trade school or apprenticeship program is preferred.
- Ability to read, interpret, understand, and determine painting needs and the methods to meet them.
- Read and implement painting blueprints/traveler plan specifications.
- Must be able to read, and understand production reports, MSDS related to product, and all associated safety procedures.
- Must be able to establish productive and effective communication ties and relationships with co-workers, supervisors, customers, and staff.
- Ability to read and interpret documents, write routine reports and correspondence, and understand basic math.
- Must be able to calculate figures and amounts such as paint quantities, paint thickness, dry time, Mil spec., etc.
- Ability to understand and know company operation costs and production costs and production overrun costs.
- Ability to analyze and understand project specifications and documents and successfully resolve practical problems and they may occur.
- To perform this job successfully, an individual should have a basic knowledge of Microsoft Office, Microsoft Outlook word processing software
- Must have OSHA Forklift Certification.
- Must be able to pass a pulmonary functions test and wear a respirator.
- Must comply with and follow all IE standards, programs, policies, and procedures as they apply to this position, reports any unsafe condition immediately.
- Must be able to operate/work safely around machinery/moving equipment.
- The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.
- Standing for extended periods of time. Ability to work at heights of up to 25 feet.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include Close vision, Distance vision, Peripheral vision, Depth perception and Ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear.
- The employee is regularly required to stand and walk on concrete floors and uneven surfaces.
Work Schedule:
Must be able to work a 40-hour work week and overtime as necessary.
