DESCRIPTION

As a Journeyman Lineman at RushShelby, you’ll perform high voltage switching, including working with energized high-voltage equipment with approved hotline maintenance equipment, taking required clearances to do work safely. You will keep timesheets and material records for yourself and your crew members. In addition, you will drive and operate specialized vehicular equipment, perform inspections of existing electrical facilities and keep records. You’ll install, repair, maintain electrical equipment and distribution lines and assume lead responsibility on assigned work. This position requires working alone and/or working as part of a crew in all weather conditions/climates and environments, day or night and is subject to an on-call rotation and call-out on a 24-hour basis. ESSENTIAL AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

  • Read and interpret work orders, job tickets, sketches, diagrams and other paperwork required to complete jobs. Know and apply the use of RUS specs and the NESC for line construction
  • Connect underground high and low voltage cables to overhead equipment and lines on poles
  • Install, inspect, and maintain conduits, cables, meters, junction boxes, switches, security lights, cut-outs, transformers, and make all connections and/or disconnects
  • Terminate distribution splices and other cables
  • Work safely and be accountable for own work and assist line crews as needed
  • Perform distribution switching and sectionalizing operations on various types of energized equipment.
  • Oversee the securing of tools, materials, and supplies and operation of the service truck
  • Responsible for routine maintenance of trucks and equipment
  • Must be able to work independently, as a team, and be a lead journeyman lineman as needed
  • Work with and gain the respect of RushShelby Energy staff and fellow coworkers, cooperative members, residents, and the public, always representing RushShelby Energy in a courteous and professional manner
  • Other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Must understand the basic electricity theory, safe work rules, principles and practices of Journeyman Lineman-level work in electrical and distribution systems
  • Knowledge, familiarity, and training with materials, tools, and methods used in electrical construction, installation and maintenance, transformer hook-ups and connections for overhead and underground distribution equipment
  • Train, delegate, instruct apprentices
  • Work on high voltage energized cable and wire as necessary, test the installation and troubleshoot faults.
  • Proficient in troubleshooting faults in electrical and distribution systems.
  • Splice electrical cables of all types and voltages.
  • Exercise physical strength and agility to lift up to 50 pounds, bend in all directions, climb ladders and poles, squeeze with arms and hands, pull and lower items up to 100 pounds, correctly and safely use a shovel, swing a sledgehammer, and operate machinery using hands and legs.
  • Think and act safely, logically, and efficiently in emergencies
  • Perform responsibilities under all types of weather and working conditions

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma or satisfactory GED equivalent
  • Four (4) years of high voltage apprentice-level training and work experience, including the successful completion of a recognized 4-year apprenticeship program is required.
  • Must be trained in First Aid, CPR pole-top rescue, bucket truck rescue, self-rescue and be familiar with precautions used around high voltage equipment
  • Must be proficient with Rubber gloving and working with hot sticks.
  • Must understand National Electric Safety Code and show a willingness to continue to learn and attend schools that may be required

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE:

  • Must possess and maintain a valid Indiana CDL Class A License.
  • Strong sensory skills, such as good hearing, dexterity and good eyesight, including the use of color perception.
  • Willingness and ability to respond to after-hours emergency calls and other duties as required and assigned.
  • Willingness to relocate to a predefined limit from the office in Manilla, Indiana.
  • Some travel (day and/or overnight) may occasionally be required to visit job sites, attend trainings and conferences.
  • Must successfully complete a pre-employment physical, drug screening and background check.
