OVERVIEW:

The Dietary Aide is responsible for processing all diet orders, meal preparation, dining room assistance, dishwashing and cleaning of kitchen. Assists I the kitchen area prior to, during, and after meals are served to patients, staff, and community patrons. Assists in maintaining the kitchen work areas, and keeping equipment, utensils, and serving areas clean and orderly.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

  1. Handles and prepares food according to sanitation and safety regulations
  2. Observes and prepares proper portions specific to age specific needs
  3. Promotes a teamwork atmosphere
  4. Addresses providers, co-workers, and customers in a respectful manner
  5. Recognizes food preference as noted on patient diet cards

RESPONSIBILITIES/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:

  1. Washes hands before handling food to be served, before touching clean dishes and utensils, and after touching anything soiled
  2. Carries out certain duties routinely without direction such as wrapping silverware and filling condiment containers in the dining room
  3. Helps prepare, portion, wrap, cover, and refrigerate food for meal(s) assigned; for example bags of bread, dips, jelly, fruit, desserts, makes toast, pours juice and milk, makes coffee/tea etc.
  4. Uses food preparation equipment properly, cleans and stores appropriately, and reports repairs needed
  5. Helps keep kitchen floor dry, wiping or mopping up spills, immediately
  6. Helps stocks supply shelves in storage area and may help check in deliveries
  7. Attends mandatory in-service education meetings and applies information to job tasks
  8. Reports any evidence of pests or rodents in kitchen area to Dietary Manager
  9. Maintains exemplary customer service principles for efficient food preparation and delivery
  10. Assures personal compliance to all state and federal regulations including blood borne pathogens, infection control, use of hazardous materials, and fire safety
  11. Assures personal compliance to patient’s right
  12. Complies with schedule as established by Dietary Manager
  13. Perform any other duties that may be necessary for the operation of the corporation and/or hospital
Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High school diploma or GED Certificate
  2. ServSafe Certification required
  3. 2+ years experience as a dietary aide in a hospital or restaurant setting
  4. Interpret recipes and follows a planned menu
  5. Ability to make simple estimates to quantities and varieties of foods

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Frequent mobility and/or sitting required for extended periods of time
  2. Manual dexterity and use of a calculator or computer keyboard.
  3. Varied activities including standing, walking, reaching, bending, lifting
  4. Occasionally lifts to 50 pounds
  5. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal ranges
  6. Requires working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours
  7. Exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionization radiation, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a hospital and/or clinic environment
