What does an ILS Specialist do?
The role of the Program Specialist working in Independent Living Services (ILS) is to guide people to greater independence in their homes and community through practical training.
You will work with adults who have set goals to achieve goals, based on the interest of the individual. This can be helping them stay on budget, creating budgets, learning skills in their own homes such as cooking and cleaning, or out in the community such as gaining more confidence or seeking connections, and any other wishes they may have.
You’ll be matched with 1-4 people to support you with person-centered goals. We are looking for a mentor to support individuals in Redding and the surrounding area.
Pay Rate: $17.00 per hour, $17.25 after 90 days and completion of training.
This position is part-time (15-20 hours per week). Scheduled hours are Monday – Friday between the hours of 8 am and 6 pm.
A Program Specialist works with each person one-on-one as needed in the following areas:
- Meal planning and preparation
- Shopping
- Money management and budgeting
- Healthcare, first aid, medication pick up
- Apartment/Home maintenance
- Personal safety
- Connecting to the community
- Social, recreational, and mobility skills
- Have patience
- Be flexible
- Have great communication skills
- Have attention to detail
- Have a great attitude
- Be eager to learn
Requirements:
- At least 18 years of age
- Ability to pass a background check through the Department of Justice (DOJ).
- Safe and reliable transportation with a valid driver’s license and auto insurance.
- Ability to pass a driving record check.
- TB (Tuberculosis) Skin Test
Benefits:

Pay Scale:
Starting rate: $17.00 per hour ($17.25 after 90 days and completion of new hire training).
Maximum Pay Rate: $18.75 per hour based on years of experience at Mains'l.
