SUMMARY:

Set up, start up, & troubleshooting of injection molding process. Work with a sense of urgency to promote on time delivery and lowered setup times. Coordinates with Material Handlers to ensure that part to part internal setup time is minimized. Swing Shift available only. $1/hour shift differential included in addition to hourly rate.

FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILTIES:

  • Build and maintain positive rapport with other Altek employees, customers and suppliers

Key Responsibilities:

  • Effectively communicates with personnel to determine scheduling priorities and next job to be set-up per supervisor’s direction. Quickly resolves scheduling and resource conflicts. Keep the schedule boards current at all times
  • Minimize operator idle time by having machines running or a plan at end of previous run
  • Minimizes machine idle time by starting teardown schedule immediately after the last part off the previous production run is complete
  • Tears-down previous production run and places teardown items neatly in aisle or non-obstructive area, returning to their designated homes for storage prior to next part startup
  • Before beginning tears-down and/or setup, verifies that the following items have been pre-staged:
  • All consumables; raw material--dried & ready, inserts, sub-components, packaging & boxes, etc.
  • All non-consumables; mold—configured and ready, secondary & auxiliary equipment, M.O., SWI, data pack, E-card, operator tools, other documentation & information, etc
  • In the event that any items are missing, give immediate feedback to Material Handler and Supervisor, so that rapid corrective action may be taken
  • Performs setup; Purges, installs mold, auxiliary equipment, secondary equipment, downloads programs, hooks-up material, etc. Seeks to minimize internal (last part to first part) setup. Performs setup with speed, accuracy, and intensity
  • Cycles in production run; Troubleshoots until good parts are achieved. Proactively seeks to minimize startup scrap & optimize part quality. Enlists assistance from Senior Process Technician when advantageous
  • In the event that a significant amount of startup scrap is produced (25 parts or more), shuts machine down and enlists assistance from Senior Process Technician, Quality, and/or Engineering to determine the appropriate course of action. Waits for decision
  • Responsible for ensuring that product is inspected visually & dimensionally per “SWI” and/or blueprint. Ensures that the “quality check sheet" is properly evaluated and approved. Obtains crosscheck from inspector to validate acceptability of product
  • Gives guidance to machine operators before handing-off production run. Review SWI together with operator if questions arise
  • Proactively drives process improvements & data accuracy. Institutionalizes improvements through updating the MO.O., SWI, E-card, and data pack. Captures all improvements with handwritten notes, and turns notes into Process Engineer, for retention of electronic master copy
  • Troubleshoots in-progress production runs as necessary to minimize scrap & optimize part quality and cycle times
  • Responsible for giving breaks, overlapping with Material Handling and running production based on workload
  • Maintain a positive outlook and treats co-workers with respect and professionalism

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Ability to work well within a team environment and ability to work independently
  • Ability to communicate effectively with other employees in a team environment, both in writing and verbally
  • Possess the traits necessary to hold all team members accountable for not adhering to Altek’s policies and procedures where clearly defined
  • Able to work night shifts and overtime including weekends
  • Follow company and safety rules
  • Knowledge of all aspects of injection molding machines
  • Intermediate PC skills including Microsoft Office suite
  • Minimum of 3 years of plastic injection molding setup and processing experience
  • Able to install injection molds, setup auxiliary and secondary equipment, including: mold heaters, material desiccant dryers, mills, drill presses, routers, pad printers, hot-stamp, hand tools, and ultrasonic welders
  • Ability to setup and adjust gas assist, hot oil, and robot processes
  • Knowledge of different material and machine types, and proper processing methods of each
  • Ability to utilize different methods of ensuring product quality, including calipers, micrometers, height gauges, pin gauges, etc
  • Ability to read and interpret manufacturing blueprints
  • Possess reading, math, and basic computer skills
  • Must be self-motivated and have the ability to motivate those around you through action and behavior
  • Be an active participant and supporter of continuous improvement
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities
  • Ability to simultaneously navigate and manage multiple programs
