THE OPPORTUNITY

Reporting to the Environmental, Health, Safety and Security (EHSS) Manager, the EHSS Specialist will:

• Assist in carrying out the day-to-day EHSS operations of the LaSalle, Naplate, and landfill facilities.
• Lead LaSalle Site Safety Committee, including meeting facilitation, coordination of field activities, and follow up on key action items derived from meeting discussions.
• Work cross-functionally to ensure that effective procedures and monitoring programs are in place to ensure compliance permit requirements.
• Lead Carus Confined Space Rescue and site First Responder team. Coordinate team functions, staffing plans, and training as required to support plant needs.
• Lead emergency preparedness activities for all Carus sites. Drive execution of drill planning, revision of emergency plans, and coordination with local agencies as necessary to support planning activities. Drive continuous improvement in this area.

THE QUALIFICATIONS

The right candidate will be a self-motivated individual with strong organization, communication, and multitasking skills. They will need to remain flexible in a continuously changing environment while remaining an influential, positive impact on others. Your credentials ideally include:

• Bachelor’s degree preferred in an environmental/health & safety field with 2-5 years of relevant experience working in a regulated chemical facility or facility which uses chemicals to manufacture an end product.
• Candidate must possess critical thinking skills, a strong ethical drive, and a desire to support Best in Class EHSS.
• A preferred candidate would have experience in one or more of the following areas:
  • Emergency preparedness and planning
  • Site security
  • Contractor programs
  • Critical EHSS standards: LOTO, confined space entry, permitting, fall prevention, etc.
  • Influential leadership or safety committee participation
• Desired candidate will have demonstrated computer skills, professional attitude, and ability to work successfully in a team-oriented environment.
• An Industrial Class K Wastewater License and Certified Landfill Operator license required for role; candidate must have ability to obtain such licenses.
