Seattle, United States 3Si Full time
Job DescriptionJob DescriptionSalary:

3Si is a software (SaaS) company that helps governments, nonprofits, and philanthropies use data to improve the lives of children. We work with a network of state and city governments to build data systems that help identify and address early childhood service gaps. Founded in 2012, 3Si is a mission driven organization with a collaborative, entrepreneurial, innovative, and fully remote work culture.

We are looking for a passionate and talented Senior Data Engineer to join our team and help us make a real difference in the lives of children and families.

This Senior Data Engineer role is critical in directly impacting the company’s mission to provide data-driven insights to improve early childhood education across the country. 3Si is entering a period of significant growth and expansion, with several new contracts and expansions expected in 2025. This growth will require building and maintaining robust, scalable, and secure data pipelines.

The Senior Data Engineer will be a key contributor to automate operational tasks, improve data quality and consistency, and empower other teams to access and utilize data more effectively. You will work closely with other data engineers and BI analysts to implement a vision for a more automated and user-friendly data platform that can be easily deployed to clients.

This is not just a technical role but a strategic position where your expertise will guide the future of our data infrastructure. You will have the autonomy to innovate, make critical decisions, and influence direction as we expand our product offerings.

This is a fully REMOTE position. Only applicants who currently reside in California, Colorado, Oregon, and Washington State will be considered for this role.

What You Will Do

  • Design, build, and maintain robust and scalable data pipelines using Python and SQL within Databricks and Sagemaker.
  • Contribute to the development of a modular platform architecture that supports client-specific customizations while maintaining a clean and efficient core system.
  • Develop and implement automation for routine operational tasks, such as data ingestion and configuration management. This includes automating manual data uploading processes.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive unit testing framework for ETL processes and data transformations to ensure data quality.
  • Implement comprehensive logging/monitoring/alerting mechanisms for all ETL processes and data transformations.
  • Collaborate effectively with a geographically dispersed team of engineers to achieve shared goals.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers to enhance their technical skills.

What You Will Bring

  • 5+ years of experience as a Data Engineer, with a proven track record of leading and owning complex data engineering projects from inception to completion.
  • Advanced programming skills in Python and SQL.
  • Deep experience with cloud-based data platforms, particularly Databricks, including a strong understanding of best practices for cloud data architecture.
  • Experience with workflow orchestration tools, such as Databricks Jobs or Airflow.
  • Experience with data modeling, ETL development, and data warehousing.
  • Experience with unit testing and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of an agile team.
  • Passion for data quality, automation, and building scalable systems.
  • Experience working with large datasets from diverse sources, with an emphasis on designing solutions that can handle scale and complexity.
  • Actively engaged in utilizing and staying current with AI tools, finding innovative ways to enhance personal productivity and improve our products by incorporating AI/ML.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a desire to learn and grow professionally.

Bonus Points

  • Experience with predictive modeling and scoring.
  • Experience working with early childhood education data.
  • Experience with data visualization tools, such as Power BI.

Physical Expectations

  • Requires sitting for extended periods of time at a computer, keying and reading content.
  • Will be required to stand, reach, bend, twist, squat, and move about freely.
  • May need to be able to lift to 20 lbs.
