Position Description

Job Title: Coordinator of Youth Ministry

FSLA: Non-Exempt

Job Status: Part-time

Reporting Functions: Reports to the Pastor of the Parish


Job Function: The Youth Ministry Coordinator provides primary leadership for the design and implementation of parish ministry to its youth. Develops close communication with and mutual support from families of youth and collaborates with other community and parish youth organizations.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Implement Middle School Ministry with Youth 6th - 8th grade and High School 9th-12

  • Occasional Weekends and youth trips.

  • The Coordinator of Youth Ministry is responsible for developing structures to grow new generations of missionary disciples of Jesus Christ so they may be active participants of St. Joseph the Worker Church by providing accompaniment, encounter opportunities, faith formation, leadership, and service opportunities for middle and high school youth.

  • Work with pastor, staff i.e. DRE, Communications Director, Business Manager, CYO, and Scout Leaders at the parish to create a vision and mission of the parish for all its youth that bears in mind missionary discipleship and vocational discernment.

  • Develop and manage sustainable accompaniment initiatives that lay out pathways for youth to grow into missionary discipleship and in vocational discernment.

  • Engage and accompany parents of youth.

  • Work with parish staff and parish ministry leaders to intentionally integrate youth in liturgical celebrations, parish planning groups, and other aspects of parish life.

  • Encourage, lead, and mentor a team of adult volunteers who will lead and facilitate specific initiatives, ministries, and programming in Youth Ministry

  • Develop ministry and service opportunities that will help youth in the growth of their Catholic faith and personal relationship with Jesus Christ that incorporate personal prayer, Scripture, Liturgy, and the Sacraments

  • Encourage, lead, and mentor a team of youth leaders as protagonists of evangelization and co-responsible leaders in the Youth Ministry to help with the development of youth outreach, evangelization, and programming.

  • Consult and collaborate with outside ministries such as the National Federation for Catholic Youth Ministry (NFCYM) in the overall vision of bringing youth to Christ.

  • Ensure compliance with safe environment requirements.

  • Aware of pop culture, trends, and current events relevant to the next and younger generations.

  • Evaluate the Youth Ministry program every year, in collaboration with the pastor, to evaluate the effectiveness of initiatives and programs against the parish's vision and mission for its youth.

Qualifications:

  • Prefer a minimum of 5 years of ministry with youth and/or young adults, including significant experience in adolescent development, catechesis, and formation.

  • Certifications in spiritual direction or pastoral care are a benefit.



Other Requirements:

  • Due to the nature and mission of the Catholic Church, all employees are bound to exhibit respect for the teachings and discipline of the Church regarding matters of faith and morals.

  • A Catholic in good standing, who understands and supports the mission of the Church and of the Diocese of Allentown. A willingness to be a leader in the Evangelization effort of the Church, including being a witness to one's own relationship with Christ.

  • Previous experience working with children.

  • This position is contingent upon successful background checks including PA Criminal History, PA Child Abuse, and FBI Fingerprinting upon hire and every 5 years.

  • Ability to teach, train, and mentor adult and young leaders.

  • Available for nights, weekends, and overnights, including travel outside of the area when required.

  • Strong skills in modern technologies, including basic web management and social media platforms.

  • Strong organization skills, budgeting and administrative skills.

  • Ability to communicate effectively through e-mail and social networking.

  • Strong service orientation and success in working in a team environment.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, employees are regularly required to sit, walk, and stand; talk or hear -both in person and by telephone. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by the means of spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities.


Working Conditions: Parish office setting, part-time, hours to be negotiated. May be required to assist with special duties and work outside the normal hours to attend evening and weekend events.
