Intern – Code Enforcement & Community Development Department

Code Enforcement / Solid Waste · Athens, Ohio


Position Summary:

The Code & SW Intern will be responsible for providing clerical support to the Code & SW Department.

This is a part-time position, with an estimated start date of October 1.  The position has the potential to extend the duration of the 2024-2025 and into the 2025-2026 school year.  Interns work approximately 20 hours a week between the hours of 8am and 4pm. Interns may work up to 40 hours per week during school breaks.  May include attending 1 evening BZA Meeting on the 2nd Tuesday of the month.

 

The successful candidate should expect to gain experience working with a governmental office at the municipal level; providing them knowledge and insight of the daily activities of Code Enforcement. Interns will also learn the crucial citizen-focused mindset necessary for future careers in government. 

This position is covered by the Fair Labor Standards Act.

Essential Functions:

• Greet visitors and callers by answering or referring inquiries
• Operate the city telephone, email, and web-based permitting program
• Keep a safe and clean reception area by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations
• Permit Application Intake / Customer Payments
• Fulfill Public Requests in a timely manner
• Special Projects / which may include working out of the office (ie: taking photos citywide)
• Assumes other responsibilities and performs related duties as needed
