Job Title: Science Guide

Reports to: Director of Education

Hours: Part-time, 20-28 hours per week

The Discovery Center Collective, formed by the merger of Don Harrington Discovery Center and Wildcat Bluff Nature Center, is committed to delivering exceptional customer service and educational experiences for learners of all ages. As a Science Guide, you play a fundamental role in enabling the Discovery Center Collective to fulfill its mission. Through innovative programs, we spark curiosity, inspire lifelong learning through play, and empower individuals to confidently engage with the wonders of our world.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Ensure the highest quality exhibit experience for every visitor, enhancing their understanding and engagement.
• Operate the Space Theater, delivering enriching astronomical experiences to visitors.
• Manage front desk operations, including operating the register system, completing daily cash/attendance reports, and providing information to facility guests.
• Assist with large school groups, actively engaging in educational interactions and moments of discovery.
• Drive sales of birthday parties, memberships, and special event tickets, facilitating memorable experiences for visitors.
• Answer phone calls, routing them to appropriate managers, and assisting guests with café purchases.
• Restock café supplies as needed, maintaining a clean and functional environment.
• Assist the Space Theater with announcements and seating as required, ensuring seamless visitor experiences.
• Provide exciting exhibit floor activities, engaging visitors of all ages in interactive learning experiences.
• Set up and manage birthday parties, ensuring a seamless and enjoyable experience for all participants.
• Manage activity stations during special events, facilitating engaging and educational interactions.
• Set up and maintain public areas, ensuring safety, cleanliness, and functionality throughout the shift.
• Consistent reset of exhibit spaces to ensure that guests are provided with the intended experience of each area.
• Assist, as requested by the MOD, in caring for live animals, fostering understanding and respect for wildlife.
• Actively collaborate with other members of the visitor experience team, ensuring cohesive and engaging visitor interactions.
• Attend all staff training sessions, committing to continuous learning and professional development.
• Uphold high standards of excellence in guest service, being attentive to their needs and engaging guests in conversation about the exhibits and their experience in the museum.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Wholeheartedly support the DHDC mission to inspire and excite children, families, and groups visiting the Discovery Center Collective.
• Exhibit creativity, patience, and a genuine love for science, fostering engaging and immersive learning experiences.
• Demonstrate a high level of emotional intelligence, professional integrity, and organizational skills.
• Outgoing personality, comfortable working with diverse groups of people and facilitating positive interactions.
• Ability to regularly lift 50 pounds, ensuring active participation in hands-on activities and exhibit setup.
