Louis Allis specializes in large, custom, and demanding motor applications and is recognized globally as a leader in AC and DC electric motor design, manufacturing, modification, troubleshooting, service, and repair. Louis Allis can repair or replace existing large custom motors regardless of the complexity or original manufacturer. We are one of the only companies that can offer custom drop-in replacements for old, legacy motors that an original manufacturer no longer supports.

Located in Warrior, Alabama, the manufacturing facility is certified to ISO 9001:2015. We also can factory recertify, service, rebuild, or repair motors to MIL-SPEC, NEMA MG, IEEE, EASA-AR100, or UL Standards.

In 2020, WorldWide Electric acquired the Louis Allis Company and has invested heavily to support our growth. The continued strong organic growth may be supplemented with add-on acquisitions.

WorldWide Electric:

Founded in 1998, WorldWide Electric has grown to be a leading developer, manufacturer and distributor of high-quality standard and custom electric motors, gear reducers, motor controls, generators, and frequency converters. Georator:

Since its founding in 1950, Georator has been the leading supplier of permanent magnet generators and mechanical and solid-state frequency converters for military, research, and industrial applications. The Georator products are now manufactured in the Louis Allis facility.

Gleason-Avery:

In October 2021 WorldWide Electric acquired Gleason-Avery, a specialty OEM gearmotor manufacturer. Founded in 1933, Gleason-Avery develops and manufactures sub-fractional AC & DC gearmotors.

North American Electric:

In December 2023 WorldWide Electric continued its expansion by acquiring North American Electric, a developer, manufacturer and distributor of high-quality standard electric motors and custom motor controls.


Combining the wide-reaching sales, service, and support of WorldWide Electric and North American Electric with the custom specialty motor capability of Louis Allis, the generator and frequency converter capability of Georator and the gearmotors from Gleason-Avery creates a one-of-a-kind supplier dedicated to providing the best products and support in the industry. WorldWide Electric, Louis Allis, North American Electric, Georator and Gleason-Avery can provide a full range of standard off-the-shelf products, modified standard products and full custom specialty products.

Position Overview

Reporting directly to the Louis Allis President, the Engineer will be a performance-driven, hands-on engineer who will execute strategic and tactical objectives within this diverse manufacturing environment. The Engineer will participate in all engineering designs, functions and processes to facilitate continued growth. The successful candidate will bring a proven track record as an engineer who is a collaborative individual that is able work with high performing teams, is passionate about providing outstanding customer service, and one who can thrive in an entrepreneurial environment backed by a private equity sponsor. This role will be based in Warrior, Alabama (relocation provided).

The Role

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide customers and prospective customers with technical application support for complex specialty motors, including providing detailed technical analysis
  • Develop detailed motor specifications based on customer requirements
  • Develop or manage outside motor designers to design custom electric motors to meet customer specifications.
  • Provide key customer support for existing products.
  • Frequent communication with customers on new developments.
  • Evaluate existing motor designs to improve the manufacturability.
  • Provide technical support to manufacturing and other functional areas.
  • Work with technicians on testing requirements.
  • Coach, mentor, and support colleagues in developing their skills to ensure high quality solutions. Participate in Louis Allis strategic development projects.
  • Lead activities to assist customers and colleagues in problem solving related to future technologies.
  • Perform optimization of industrial motors and a cost benefit analysis per internal practices and industry standards.
  • Collaborate with Product Management and Operations on product specifications, application assistance, regulatory/certification requirements and processes.
  • Other duties and tasks as assigned.

Education:

  • Electrical or Mechanical Engineering Bachelor's degree or equivalent in relevant experience.

Knowledge / training:

  • Theoretical and practical knowledge of power converters and electric systems.
  • Understanding of medium voltage AC motor designs.
  • Familiarity with electrical and safety standards on AC motors and components.
  • Thorough understanding of electric motor manufacturing techniques and standards.
  • Thorough knowledge of MS Office applications.
  • Six Sigma or Lean project leadership experience.

Experience:

  • 4 Years Electric motor design, manufacturing and applications experience,
  • Motor component selection and specification.
  • Testing of electrical motors, applications and components.
  • Working in a customer facing engineering environment and assessing non-conformities both from the factory/ in the field.
  • Previous experience with demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills, with the capacity to lead and influence teams.
  • Proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint required; Microsoft Project, Auto-Cad and Solid Works

  • 4 years of relevant progressively responsible experience within the electric motor market.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, interpersonal and decision-making skills.
  • Strong organization and project management skills and the ability to deal with multiple, competing priorities with minimal supervision.
