Summary

A scenic painter will utilize various artistic techniques to transform 2-D and 3-D theme construction elements according to project plans and models. This role requires hands-on work in a construction site environment.

Location: Brookfield, IL

Shift/Work Hours: M - F 1st shift - 40 hours - possibility of weekend hours

Employment Type: Direct hire; non-exempt


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Prepare for tasks or projects by learning the scope of work and prepping appropriate tools necessary to complete assignment.
  2. Set-up and clean-up work area including tarping, scraping, cleaning materials and equipment, and other necessary tasks.
  3. Clean and prep surface for painting by scraping, caulking, bonding, sanding, patching, priming and base painting.
  4. Color match and mix paint to achieve desired visual results.
  5. Paint faux finishes such as simulated rock, wood grain, distressed/aged appearance, etc. by utilizing a variety of artistic techniques.
  6. Paint 2-D and 3-D scenic work.
  7. Work on elevated surfaces.
  8. Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
  9. Perform other duties and responsibilities as requested or required.


Knowledge and Skill

  • Deadline oriented with ability to achieve goals per project schedule.
  • Demonstrated experience in artistic fabrication.
  • Preferred experience in construction.
  • Familiarity with a variety of materials and finishes.
  • Ability to work from plans, specifications, photos and models.
  • Experience working with units of measurement and scales.
  • Proficiency in using hand and power tools.
  • Analytical thinker who logically breaks down problems and looks for solutions.
  • Flexible to change, and able to multitask and shift project direction based on customer needs and deadlines.

Physical Demands

  • Close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Lift 70 lbs. floor to waist; lift 90 lbs. waist to chest; lift 25 lbs. chest to overhead; carry 50 lbs. over a distance of 50 ft.; push a 100 lbs. wheeled cart over a distance of 100 ft.; and drag 50 lbs. over a distance of 100 ft.


Work Environment

  • Exposed to typical noises and smells associated with a construction environment, such as exposure to fumes or airborne particles and production machinery. Noise level is moderate to loud.
