We are looking for a balance between creative and pragmatic - someone self-motivated and driven to explore new ways of creating mutually beneficial partnerships, someone who is team-oriented and obsessed with details done with excellence. You will possess a strong knowledge of the food industry and be on top of the latest food trends. This is an opportunity to dream big and help create food that will change the world

We partner with major industry players who want truly disruptive and impactful innovation and who desire our experience, flexibility, and focus. We break down barriers with a fresh perspective, deep and varied expertise, and creative problem-solving to tackle challenges at every step of the go-to-market process, creating products that are delicious, nutritious, sustainable, profitable, and scalable.

As an Applications Engineer at Chew, you will design and optimize food manufacturing processes while actively contributing to product development at the bench. This dual role ensures a seamless transition from concept to full-scale production and provides you with a hands-on understanding of the products being manufactured.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Drive a range of product development projects, collaborating closely with research scientists and chefs to develop, optimize, and manufacture new food products, with a focus on R&D product development, process development, and scale-up processing design and validation.
  • Investigate the capabilities of potential co-manufacturing facilities and provide first-line support to internal and external production facilities by acting as the coach and training resource for product mastery and providing knowledge transfer to build the factories' capability to troubleshoot when issues occur.
  • Provide guidance and mentoring to science and culinary team members, enhancing their understanding of food processing steps at a factory scale.
  • Serve as Applications Engineering and Process Authority support for assigned projects, providing operating parameters, material expertise, and equipment recommendations to optimize processes and meet partnership requests.

WHAT WILL MAKE YOU SUCCESSFUL:

  • B.S. Degree in Chemical, Food Process, Biochemical, Mechanical, Industrial Engineering or similar, Food Science, or related fields.
  • At least 5 years of experience in food and beverage manufacturing/processes.
  • Factory and scale-up experience is required to ensure credibility and effective problem-solving skills when working autonomously with internal and co-manufacturing teams.
  • Experience in food and beverage production is required; OSHA or HACCP training is preferred but not required.

Other skills and attributes that will contribute to success in this role:

  • Strong laboratory and experimental skills, data analysis, and written and verbal reports.
  • Creative/independent thinking, results-focused, and ability to impact & convince others.
  • A positive attitude and collaborative approach to accomplish team objectives and drive key projects to completion.
  • Ability to effectively and accurately document and communicate results of research and analysis to peers and team leadership.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to lead technical teams as an expert in a product or food processing.
  • Occasional travel to partnership sites or co-manufacturing facilities.

  • Ability to lift approximately 40 pounds.
