Position Function/Nature of Work:

Under the direction of the Parks & Recreation Director, this position will perform duties necessary to meet the needs of the community. This position will include assisting with program development, carrying forth prudent fiscal management and performing general clerical duties.

  • Assist in the delivery of special events.
  • Promote, organize, and stimulate good relationships with community and other interest groups and other agencies serving the area.
  • Prepare accurate and appropriate program and facility information for seasonal brochures and other ; miscellaneous public information.
  • Must be able to solicit sponsors and donations for programs.
  • Must be able to perform duties necessary to support the Recreation Division by completing general clerical duties. Duties include, but are limited to answering telephones, taking, and recording registrations, customer service, taking applications and processing payments, creating payment and programming spreadsheets, and filing.
  • Responsible for maintaining a clean and orderly facility.
  • Perform other duties and function as directed.

Knowledge/Skills /Abilities:

Principals, practices and objectives of Parks and Recreation Program Administration.

  • Ability to perform unskilled labor work and lift a minimum of twenty-five pounds.
  • Ability to perform various tasks in all weather conditions and environmental situations.
  • Ability to use basic computer software, as well as learn and use various other computer programs as required.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical functions, read and understand written work orders and instructions and write simple reports.
  • Must be capable of working various schedules for short- or long-term assignments.
  • Ability to work harmoniously with fellow employees, patrons, community groups and other units of local government.
  • Ability to utilize effective time management skills and be able to work under the pressure of deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively within various settings, from one on one to group configurations.
  • Ability to maintain self-control and composure in difficult situations.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Extensive knowledge of athletics activities, rules regulations and procedures for organized leagues..
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Must be willing to learn and demonstrate a positive attitude.
  • Must pass applicable pre-employment testing and background and credit checks.

Other Requirements:

  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Must possess a valid State of Florida Class E drivers' license.
  • First Aid and CPR Certifications are required.
  • Must be able to pass the State required background check..
  • Must possess an honorable military discharge, if applicant has been service connected.
  • Must be a United States citizen or naturalized citizen.
  • Must pass a physical examination and drug urinalysis test.
  • Must not have been convicted of a felony.
  • Must endure a personal, professional and moral background investigation to determine honesty, maturity and dependability.
  • Must be able to work weekends and nights.
  • Must be fluent in the English language; ability to communicate in Spanish is a plus.

This position may be required to report for work when a declaration of emergency has been declared in Polk County.
