The Controller will play a pivotal role in guiding our organization towards financial success and stability while overseeing all accounting operations for both single family and multi-family units. Your responsibilities encompass a spectrum of strategic planning, meticulous oversight, and collaborative leadership. 

Compensation:

$125,000 yearly

Responsibilities:
  • Develop internal control policies, guidelines, and procedures for activities, such as budget administration, cash and credit management, and accounting.
  • Tracks and reports on operational performance benchmarks and actual results. Uses trend analysis to keep management team informed of areas of needed improvement.  
  • Provide appropriate data in support of cross functional project work by providing direction regarding company accounting and budgeting policies and procedures.
  • Prepare or direct preparation of monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial statements, business activity reports, financial position forecasts, annual budgets. 
  • Monitor financial activities and details, such as cash flow and reserve levels, to ensure that all legal and regulatory requirements are met.
  • Receive, record, and authorize requests for disbursements in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Supervise and audit employees performing financial reporting, accounting, billing, collections, payroll, and budgeting duties.
  • Provide leadership and oversight to a small team, managing employee concerns, development, and managing day-to-day activities.
  • Lead company staff training and development in budgeting and financial management areas. 
  • Prepare financial information to provide external CPAs in the process of filing of annual company tax returns.
  • Assist the CFO in the maintenance of relationships with banking, insurance, and external accounting personnel to facilitate financial activities.
  • Complete other tasks and duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • 10 years of progressive experience in similar roles within accounting, preferably with most of that experience being in home building or general contractors
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, or closely related field required.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience with work-in-progress (WIP) accounting practices.
  • Highly adaptable to the changing needs of a mid-sized business.
  • Ability to prepare accurate and timely financial statements according to GAAP standards.
  • Strong analytical thinker to interpret and correlate financial data and make informed decisions and advise others.
  • High attention to detail in reviewing and reporting financial data.
  • Use budgeting and forecasting to provide insights and recommendations for successful business operation.
  • Understanding of tax laws and regulations, including preparation of tax returns and compliance.
  • Ability to identify and mitigate financial risks to protect company assets. 
  • Comfortability interacting professionally at multiple levels of an organization.
  • Experience utilizing accounting software programs as well as strong experience utilizing Microsoft Suite.
