Summary of Functions

Almost all drag crew positions can be taught and learned within a few weeks. You will be expected to grow and evolve as the industry changes to better yourself and adapt. This is a fun industry to be part of, but it is still a job and you will be expected to perform. A strong interest in the industry and desire to succeed can easily overcome any lack of experience coming into the field. We are a small tight knit community. We all had to start out somewhere so what better place to get your feet wet, than Kalispel Raceway Park.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Tech Inspector: Is responsible for inspecting the race vehicle to ensure the vehicle falls in line with the recommended safety and competition specifications outlined in the NHRA rulebook. Automotive and mechanical knowledge is required, and a good understanding of racing safety equipment is a plus.
Staging Lane Official: Is responsible for the organization of the various classes in competition. Employee must be able to differentiate between the classes and be able to load the cars in their appropriate designated lanes. Good communication skills are necessary, as you will need to relay information from race control to the racers or vice versa; and address any issues or questions that may arise.
Tower Stage: This position is responsible in communicating the car numbers and dial-in’s to race control, specifically the clock operator, during the elimination rounds. Employee must be able to think on their feet and maintain consistent accuracy. A mistake at this position can have a drastic effect on the outcome of the racer’s experience.
Clock Operator: This person is responsible for accurately manually entering every car number and dial-in for the race; therefore, focus and concentration is necessary at all times. Computer and typing skills are a plus. A windows-based based computer program is used. You will be taught the program; therefore, no previous experience is necessary.
Water Box Official: Will be preparing the water box for burnouts. In doing so, will manage how much water is applied to the surface; keep the area clear of excess rubber, debris and fluid; be observant for debris and/or fluids on the starting line and/or down track; and assist in controlling the pace of the race. This person needs to be vigilant about his/her surroundings at all times for the purpose of not only his/her safety but the safety of our racers.
Starter Assistant: This official will work closely with the starter. This individual will assist in track prep; maintain the starting line area by keeping the area clean of debris and fluids; and is a second set of eyes to witness the outcome of a race. This is a fast-paced position that requires constant awareness of your surroundings.
Starter: This position does require that the individual have an understanding of race procedures, as you will be responsible in starting the individual races and occasionally making judgement calls. Attention to detail is necessary. Must have good communication skills and be able to react quickly to situations. This position will take the lead on track prep and ensure that the starting line and the racetrack is clear of debris and fluid at all times. This position requires constant awareness of your surroundings, due to the fast-paced environment.
Announcer: You will be the ‘voice’ of Qlispe’ Raceway. Those interested must have automotive knowledge, as you will be required to have meaningful conversations about the various vehicles and be able to recognize the different vehicles solely based upon sight as information is not always provided and/or entered into the computer data base. A general understanding of the sport of drag racing is needed. It may appear simple in concept; however, the various classes have more intricacies than meets the eye.
The willingness to learn or get to the know racers during the course of a season or weekend is necessary. As well as having the gift to gab or story telling talent. You are not only announcing the outcome and the facts of the race, but you are also doing it in a fashion that entertains at the same time. The more knowledgeable you are about the racers and the sport the more successful you will be in this position.
Slip Shack: This person is responsible for accurately delivering every time slip to the correct competator. A windows-based based computer program is used. You will be taught the program; therefore, no previous experience is necessary
• Ensures compliance with the Kalispel Tribe of Indians Internal Controls and KTEA and NQRC Policies and Procedures.
• Is dependable and reliable, adhering to the attendance policy.
• May be required to be a panelist for the Internal Review Hearings.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no supervisory responsibilites.


Experience

Good organizational skills are also necessary, as you will constantly make adjustments on the fly and will be required to convey information even when there is downtime on the dragstrip.

Certificates, Licenses, Regulations

• Ability to obtain and maintain a Tribal Work Permit.
• Valid driver’s license (Must be in possession while operating a Tribal Vehicle).
