Caring Kitchen Project, a program serving nutritious meals to people with serious illness, is seeking an extra help person in the kitchen. This person will mainly be washing dishes but will also help with prep cooking and kitchen cleaning as needed. This is a great opportunity to work in a commercial kitchen at an entry level, and help provide an important service to our community.

Position: Caring Kitchen - Extra Help

Expected Rate of Pay: $17.00 to $18.00 per hour (Depending on Experience)

Full Range of Position: $16.47 to $21.41 per hour

Hours: 6 to 8 hours per week, 12 months per year

POSITION OVERVIEW

The purpose of this classification is to provide for the extra short term or intermittent work needs of programs that are not covered by an existing job description. An employee hired into this position performs under direct supervision of the assigned supervisor. Primary duties will vary as assigned and may include office, clerical, professional or manual labor tasks at a level of responsibility commensurate with the assignments and with the qualifications indicated below.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide physical labor including site custodial or maintenance; moving of materials, office equipment or furniture; gardening and/or related work.
  • Perform administrative duties and support to the Accounting, Human Resources, Information Technology, or general Administration departments.
  • Provide client support services in conformance with guidelines and/or requirements of the program or project and/or its funder(s).
  • Perform clerical and office duties as assigned that may include but are not limited to filing and copying documents; retrieving, tracking, collating or analyzing data and information; reviewing and/or updating databases and/or files; processing documents; reviewing certifications and re-certifications for accuracy.
  • Perform marketing and public relations duties such as (but not limited to): design and print flyers, advertisements and handouts; draft articles for publishing in print and digital/social media outlets; facilitate the distribution of information and publicity materials; make and return phone calls; prepare and/or coordinate mass outreach efforts such as bulk mailings and flyers; assist with coordination of and/or work at events and outreach opportunities.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding work information.

Additional specific duties for position as hired (including, but not limited to):

  • Wash dishes in a commercial kitchen environment
  • Cleaning duties, to include sweeping, mopping, wiping surfaces, cleaning sinks
  • Food washing and preparation

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Qualifications vary with the duties and responsibilities to be assigned and should be specified in writing when the position is advertised and given to the candidate prior to hire.

Educational level required will be based on the tasks, duties and responsibilities of the position as hired. All required education must have been obtained from an accredited school. This position is for:

Education, Training and Experience:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is recommended.
  • An associate degree or two years of college level education or related experience is recommended.
  • A bachelor’s degree or four years related experience is recommended.
  • A bachelor’s degree or six years of related experience in a related field is recommended.
  • Related work experience that enables the employee to proficiently perform the assigned required duties and responsibilities is required.
  • Computer experience is required as appropriate for the level of tasks, duties, and responsibilities to be performed as assigned.

Knowledge of:

  • Principles and practices of interpersonal communications.
  • Current standard office practices, procedures, and equipment.
  • Computer operations as relates to the duties of the position; position requires demonstrated proficiency in the use of word processing, email, and spreadsheet programs and the internet.

Ability to:

  • Interact with others in a culturally and emotionally sensitive manner.
  • Follow all required guidelines and laws related to safe food handling, storage, and preparation in a commercial kitchen environment.
  • Communicate effectively and appropriately verbally and in writing in English is required.
  • Take direction and work with supervisor to ensure priorities are correctly aligned and accomplished.
  • Be effective working independently and as a collaborative team member.
  • Use good judgment, creativity; tactful, thorough and dependable.
  • Organize duties and tasks to meet established deadlines, delegating tasks as appropriate.
  • Work a flexible schedule to accommodate attending scheduled works events and professional development opportunities.

Necessary Special Skills & Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • For work-related driving, must have a valid California driver’s license, a verifiable good driving record, and access to a vehicle with insurance that covers the employee as a driver OR reliable transportation with proof of automobile insurance.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, listen, and communicate clearly;
  • The employee frequently is required to sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, use manual and automatic office equipment, and reach with hands and arms.
  • The employee is occasionally required to stand; bend; reach down and stretch overhead; walk; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds unassisted and may occasionally move and lift heavier materials with assistance using ergonomic guidelines.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
