Job Title: Literacy Interventionist - Long-Term Substitute
Department: Upper School
Reports To: Upper School Director
Employee Classification: Part-Time, Non-Exempt
Salary Range: $20.00-$25.00 per hour
Daily Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00am-12:00pm
Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled long-term substitute to support literacy interventions for our Upper School team. The ideal candidate will possess expertise in the Science of Reading, Orton-Gillingham training, and familiarity with the Wilson Reading curriculum. The Literacy Interventionist will work closely with students who require additional support in reading, helping them develop essential literacy skills. While special education experience is preferred, it is not required.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement targeted literacy interventions for students who are struggling with reading.
- Utilize Orton-Gillingham methodologies to provide multi-sensory, structured literacy instruction.
- Integrate the Wilson Reading curriculum into individualized intervention plans.
- Assess students’ reading abilities using data-driven tools and tailor instruction based on assessment results.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers and special education staff to align intervention strategies with classroom instruction.
- Monitor student progress regularly and adjust interventions as needed to ensure continuous improvement in reading skills.
- Provide one-on-one or small group instruction to meet the diverse needs of students.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and communicate results with parents, teachers, and other stakeholders.
- Manages all assessment platform questions and training for staff.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in literacy instruction and intervention.
- Ensure goals for student learning outcomes are reached.
- Assist with lunch, and recess duties as well as before and after school where applicable
- Communicate effectively with lead teachers, the elementary team, and the program director.
Qualifications
- 2+ years' experience in education
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in education
- Familiarity with the Science of Reading and evidence-based literacy practices
- Strong understanding of phonics, phonemic awareness, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.
- Training in specific literacy approaches - OG, LETRS, Wilson Reading, Reading Recovery, or other similar programs.
- Love of primary and elementary-aged students.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Nurturing teaching approach.
- Compassionate attitude and a strong understanding of child development.
- Professionalism, including attendance, positivity, and a sense of humor.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a team of educators.
Part-time, temporary, and substitute employees will also accrue PTO during the school year at a rate of 1 hour of PTO per every 30 hours actually worked.
