Job DescriptionJob DescriptionWe are currently recruiting for an UX Design Lead with a focus on data collection for our State of CA client. This person will be part of a state of the art, extremely vast, IT modernization project with a variety of cross-functional teams. 

This role is remote; however, teams may gather in California several times per year. Seeking candidates in Pacific Time Zones, Mountain Time Zones or Central Time Zones only. 

The UX Design Lead ensures that discovery related to the interaction and visual design of the user-facing application(s) of the solution, apply human-centered design principles and provide an intuitive and delightful interface and performance. As a key collaborator with the Product Manager, Product Owner, and technical team, the UX Design Lead is responsible for strategizing, identifying, and driving task-level discovery and design activities, expectations, and facilitating artifact readiness for technical team use.
The UX Design Lead will plan, design and carry out human-centered research activities with users to help the product and technical teams have a deep understanding of the people that need the solution, either as users of the solution or as beneficiaries to the value to client and Californians that the solution must provide. 
  • The UX Design Lead will lead research that results in deep empathy for the solution users and stakeholders through a range of qualitative and quantitative user research methods appropriate to the appropriate stages of the product life cycle and situations.
  • The UX Design Lead will lead design activities which produce artifacts that result in development teams’ understanding of product requirements and ensure that design specifications will produce results that meet users and stakeholders needs and goals.
  • The UX Design Lead partners with the business programs which are designing form templates and interpreting the data collection requirements of legislation to ensure that data collection is limited to the minimum necessary to accomplish legislative requirements and OKR.
  • Advises the OKR drafting and planning teams.
  • Advises Product Owner on design alignment with business programs' needs/intentions. Assists with OKR articulation during drafting and may writes acceptance criteria/user stories, as needed.
  • Reports to Lead Product Manager.
 Desirable qualifications in addition to classification requirements:
  • Human centered design research practices for data label, data linkages across data sets, and data collection form design.
  • Experience with this activity within a governmental context.
  • Strategic leadership around assessing the value, purpose, and intention of data collected and opportunities to link data purposes such that form design focuses on collection of the minimum required data set across business.  
  • Stakeholder engagement/communication skills necessary to help explain value and need of what they’ll be doing to a variety of stakeholder types (including executives, clerical/analytical staff, data research specialists, etc.)

Experience
Minimum of five (5) years of FTE experience as a lead in conducting user research (usability testing, user interviews, surveys questionnaires, a/b testing etc.), qualitative/quantitative/behavioral/attitudinal analysis & synthesis, UI design, and interaction design.

 Education:
Possess a bachelor's degree in a related field such as UX design, digital communications, psychology, etc. Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
