Salary Range: $18.25 - $19.00
The Greater Vallejo Recreation District is a Special Service District that has been serving area residents for 78 years. As a Special Service District, GVRD operates as a separate government agency from the City of Vallejo. GVRD manages 407 acres of public park space including 20 neighborhood parks, 10 community parks, 6 special purpose parks, and Olympic-size swimming pool and 4 community centers. GVRD maintains over 1,000 acres of public land.
GVRD is governed by a five-member Board of Directors. With 30 plus full time and approximately 155 part-time and seasonal employees, GVRD operates on a 2022-2023 fiscal year budget of $12.9 million for general fund operations and Measure K funding amounting to $2.2 million. The Measure K funding is being utilized to purchase necessary equipment, improve parks, facilities.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Class specifications are intended to present a descriptive list of the range of duties performed by employees in the class. Specifications are not intended to reflect all duties performed within the job.
DEFINITION
To perform a variety of tasks and duties, in support of GVRD and Children’s Wonderland Park; to maintain a safe and enjoyable environment to the guests; to lead in recreation activities and special events.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
- Receives immediate supervision from higher level staff, Recreation Coordinator.
- Exercises supervision over lower-level staff, Recreation Leaders.
ESSENTIAL AND MARGINAL FUNCTION STATEMENTS
Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are, not limited to the following:
Essential Functions:
- Supervise the day-to-day operations at Children’s Wonderland Park.
- Supervise and monitor the performance and behavior of the Recreation Leaders.
- Collect and record daily entrance fees and concession fees; record payments using the Sportsman Recreation Software; issue receipts.
- Register the public for Special Events using the Sportsman Recreation Software.
- Lead and supervise birthday parties and special events; enforce safety and rules.
- Resolve conflicts among guests; respond to the public's concerns and/or issues.
- Monitor activities within the park and/or outside the park.
- Provide information to the public.
- Report needed for inventory of equipment and supplies to the Recreation Coordinator.
- Perform first aid as necessary.
- Report directly any safety concerns and/or conflicts to the Recreation Coordinator.
Marginal Functions:
- Assist in the janitorial duties and upkeep of the park.
- Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
- General recreation principles and practices.
- Basic knowledge of art and craft techniques, games, and sports.
- Interpersonal skills.
- Safety measures.
ABILITY TO:
- Delegate duties to lower Staff, Recreation Leaders.
- Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Learn recreation activities, rules, and policies needed to run the Park.
- Resolve conflicts among guests.
- Respond to the public's concerns and/or issues.
- Attend monthly meetings and trainings related to work.
- Work effectively under the supervision of the Recreation Coordinator
Experience and Training Guidelines
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience:
Some experience with recreation programs, youth and the public are desirable.
Training:
None required
Education/License or Certificate
C.P.R and First Aid certification or the ability to obtain within six months of hire date
Minimum Age/Experience
- Must be minimum 18 years of age to apply.

Physical Condition
Essential functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for walking or standing for prolonged periods of time.
