This position reports to the Maintenance Manager. Responsibility includes but is not limited to preventive, predictive, and corrective work related to instrumentation, electrical power and process controls for the site. This position also has responsibility for I,E, and A planning, scheduling and execution activities. This role includes system performance monitoring, system health reports, and operability recommendations.

Summary of Essential Job Functions

  • New projects, provides instrument, electrical and controls design, specification, selection and installation of new equipment and systems including:
  1. Support/Lead the design standards plant wide.
  2. Review specifications and ensure NEC Code compliance.
  3. Provides crucial technical guidance to contractors or third parties.
    1. Area classifications
    2. Electrical specifications
    3. Instrument specifications
    4. Coordination with EPC firms as required for project support.
  4. Ensures the planning, development, and execution of projects is carried out in a sound, technically competent and professional manner.
  5. Preparation and review of design packages and coordination of these packages with construction and plant personnel.
  • Existing plant assets and infrastructure, Responsibility for on-going maintenance and reliability activities pertaining to instrumentation, electrical power, and process controls including:
  1. Initiates improvement plans to support plant reliability and offset obsolescence.
  2. Monitor unit operations and troubleshoot equipment and process problems.
  3. Ensure critical long lead time spare equipment is available as plant stock or dedicated supplier stock as required.
  4. Perform root cause failure analysis and corrective action plans on critical asset failures.
  5. Coordination of outage and tie-in activities as relating to project and maintenance work.
  6. Interface with all stakeholders to ensure non-routine repairs and modifications are accomplished safely and correctly.
  7. Develop and maintain effective predictive, preventive and corrective maintenance systems for the plant electrical power distribution systems and other support systems. Champions the improvement in electric power reliability.
  8. Develop and champion a motor maintenance and reliability program.
    1. Storage of critical spares.
    2. Repair specifications for the repair facility.
    3. Strategic cost-saving contract dialogs for purchasing new motors.
    4. Support/set up of reliability testing: off-line, on-line, infrared and even vibration.
    5. Document acceptance testing of repaired motors and new motors.
    6. Tracking methods for motors from purchase through scrap with history.
    7. Develop a decision tree model for determining repair vs. replacement.
    8. Support/develop a system to address energy consumption and efficiency.
  9. Identify and develop emergency failure plans for critical failures.

General Responsibilities

  1. Identify and put plans together to resolve high electrical risk areas of concern.
  2. Prepares, tracks, and reports electrical power consumption monthly and annual.
  3. Identify and resolve chronic instrument accuracy and reliability issues.
  4. Develop a system to identify and document opportunities for reduced energy consumption showing.
  5. Assists with generation and upkeep of the site’s computerized instrument index.
  6. Maintain and update history of electrical distribution files, records as required.
  7. Manage new and existing systems, procedures and processes to ensure reliability and integrity of the plant wide grounding grid.
  8. Supports and monitor maintenance planning and scheduling.
  9. Support development of critical jobs plans.
  10. Revise existing documentation and redline drawings.
  11. Produce work packages for instrument and electrical detail for installation.
  12. Order instrumentation, electrical and control system parts.
  13. Follow up vendor/suppliers
  14. Loss Control responsibilities include: conducting inspections and audits related to the Loss Control program as assigned, participating in Hazard Reviews as needed, recommending safety improvements, completion of safety action items as assigned, completing required regulatory training, and compliance with all applicable regulations.

Requirements

  • 5+ years instrumentation, electrical, controls and analyzers experience in chemical manufacturing facility – batch experience preferred
  • Basic understanding of computer system network architecture and above average computer skills regarding Windows
  • Flexible regarding work focus as a typical day may include a mixture of process, controls, and project related work
  • Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks, adapt to changing priorities, and work under pressure
