JOB SUMMARY

The Occupational Therapist is an integral member of the interdisciplinary team whose focus is on the development and promotion of participation in everyday life activities for the pediatric population. The Occupational Therapist assesses and addresses the physical, cognitive, psychosocial, sensory, communication, and other areas of development for the clients’ participation in everyday life. The Occupational Therapist customizes unique individual and group interventions for the establishment, remediation, or restoration of daily living activities. They identify the need for environmental adaptations for the promotion of safety and function at home and in the community. The Occupational Therapist promotes health and wellness to enable or enhance performance in everyday life activities. To be successful as a pediatric occupational therapist, you should be patient and able to work under stress and to alleviate the frustrations of your patients and their families.


This position is a part-time position with available hours from 3:00 PM - 7:00 PM


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Evaluate clients with standardized testing materials, client report, parental/guardian report, teacher report, and clinical observations to determine current level of function, areas of dysfunction, strengths, and developmental age appropriateness.
  • Create a plan of care for the treatment of the client that is client centered, functional, and measurable within the scope of practice for an Occupational Therapist.
  • Customize individualized therapeutic sessions for the achievement of current treatment plan in individual sessions.
  • Check-in and Check-out School-based related service students.
  • Complete billing for all services provided in accordance to Leg Up Farm policy.
  • Track and document client progression towards established goals.
  • Communicate client progression with parent/guardian, interdisciplinary team, and primary care physician in compliance with Leg Up Farm policies.
  • Oversee clinical interns and fieldwork students in occupational therapy as per Leg Up Farm and state policy.
  • Review treatment plan on a regular basis in compliance with Leg Up Farm policy.
  • Create discharge plan of care and communicate with caregivers.
  • Ensure that sessions start and end on time.
  • Maintains neat and orderly work areas in clinical and office spaces.
  • Reports incidents and completes Leg Up Farm documentation to supervisor.
  • Reports any incidents of mandated reporting to appropriate channels.
  • Reports supply needs to Rehabilitation Manager.
  • Follows the guidelines of universal precautions and good work ergonomics.
  • Completion of clear and thorough Occupational Therapy evaluations.
  • Completion of a clear, functional, measurable, and client focused Occupational Therapy treatment plans.
  • Completion of clear, functional, and client focused home exercise/activity programs.
  • Completion of letters of medical necessity.
  • Completion of clear and thorough daily session notes in SOAP form.
  • Completion of monthly documentation for educational services.
  • Completion of care plan meeting updates.
  • Completion of clear and thorough discharge summaries.
Requirements:

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • Master’s or Higher in Occupational Therapy from an ACOTE-accredited academic institution
  • PA State License as an Occupational Therapist
  • Completion of New Staff Orientation Trainings
  • National Board for the Certification of Occupational Therapy (NBCOT)
  • Mandated Reporter and Child Abuse Training
  • First Aid & CPR/AED Certification
  • Current State Child Abuse History Clearance
  • Current State Police Record Check
  • Current Federal Criminal History Background Check (FBI Fingerprinting)
  • Compliance with Drug Testing & Satisfactory Drug Testing Results
  • Knowledge of scope of practice of a PA State Licensed Occupational
  • Knowledge of best practices for Occupational Therapy per AOTA
  • Knowledge of Leg Up Farm Therapy Program policies and procedures and the ability to ensure proper implementation.
  • Intermediate Computer Literacy Skills including word processing, spreadsheets, and emails
  • Thorough assessment skills of child development
  • Implementation of sensory-based strategies for functional outcomes
  • Behavioral modification strategies for varied pediatric population
  • Highly detail-oriented, able to work independently, multi-task, enjoy interfacing with staff at all levels
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from clients, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.

Preferred:

  • 2 Years of outpatient therapy experience (pediatric preferred)
  • Safe Crisis Management Certification
  • Basic use of Sign Language and basic communication strategies


WORKING CONDITIONS

This position requires work to be performed in a variety of settings located on the campus including the outside of the physical building. The employee may be exposed to hot or cold temperatures depending on the weather and time of the year. They may be exposed to various temperatures of water outside in the Koi pond and inside in the therapy pool. This position is subject to a number of inherent risks associated with equine activities. There is a potential exposure to dander of animals.

This position requires the ability to sit, crawl, stand, walk, run, climb steps, bend, transfer a 50-lb child, and the manual dexterity and physical endurance to lift patients and heavy equipment. At times there may be the need to perform passive restraints. This position requires the ability to verbally communicate, hear, and type, and to adjust communication pattern to the age and level of understanding of the child. This may sometimes include no-verbal means of communication like sign language.

Occasional exposure to loud noises from clients, animals, and equipment is present. This position is subject to a number of inherent risks associated with pediatric services which is not limited to bites, kicks, scratches, and hits.
