Position Overview

We are looking for enthusiastic, skilled, quality-oriented, and safety-oriented entry level construction professionals to perform engineering duties through multiple facets of our central Texas operation. Our company relies on qualified candidates to bring their talents and work ethic to service the heavy highway construction industry. As a Project Engineer, you will be afforded the opportunity to perform project engineering work in a wide variety of roles. At various points in your career, appointments in field engineering, office engineering, scheduling, surveying, estimating, equipment & fleet management and project controls may all form part of your professional development at JD Abrams.


Major Responsibilities


Field Engineering:

  • Perform quantity field measurements and calculations
  • Perform material usage field measurements and calculations
  • Order and schedule deliveries for materials and construction supplies
  • Perform general supervision of field operations including subcontractors
  • Participate in the safety management program
  • Assist with interpretation of drawings and specifications for crews
  • Assist project management staff in the preparation and execution of work plans
  • Assist in compiling and confirming daily labor timekeeping
  • Assist in the preparation of Job Hazard Analysis (JHA’s)
  • Assist in providing solutions related to construction operations
  • Assist with owner-representative communication and coordination

Office Engineering:

  • Track quantities and prepare monthly job progress reports both internally & externally
  • Track material usage and waste factors and prepare monthly reports
  • Review and approve project-level payables
  • Submit daily labor timekeeping and compile the various periodic reports
  • Assist project management staff with administrative duties as assigned
  • Assist with the compliance of the safety management program
  • Assist project management staff with interpretation of drawings and specifications
  • Assist project management staff in conducting pre-activity meetings
  • Assist with schedule updates, look ahead scheduling, and subcontractor scheduling
  • Assist with change management and project controls functions

Scheduling

  • In collaboration with estimating staff, prepare pre-bid schedules
  • In collaboration with project management staff, prepare baseline schedules
  • In collaboration with project management staff, manage progress updates
  • In collaboration with project management staff, prepare time impact schedules
  • Conduct basic scheduling trainings, internally
  • Assist with the compliance of the safety management program

Surveying

  • Perform construction staking
  • Assist with modeling using Trimble Business Center
  • Assist project management staff with interpretation of drawings and specifications
  • Perform some quantity field measurements and calculations
  • Assist with the compliance of the safety management program

Estimating

  • Perform estimating document control
  • Complete material and quantity takeoffs according to bid documents
  • Attend pre-bid meetings, field visits, and preliminary plan reviews
  • Perform site assessments on projects being bid
  • Assist with bid reviews, quote management, bid closeout, and bid buyout
  • Assist estimating staff with identification of project risks and opportunities

Equipment and fleet management

  • Assist the equipment management team with asset deployment and job costing
  • Assist the equipment management team with geo-zone setups and monitoring
  • Assist the equipment management team with data collection and analysis
  • Assist with equipment requisitions, managing major repairs, and disposition of assets
  • In collaboration with operations staff, assist with equipment scheduling needs & forecasting
  • Assist estimating staff with identification of equipment-related risks and opportunities
  • Assist with the compliance of the safety management program

Job Requirements

  • Candidate must possess a BS degree in Construction Management, Construction Science, Engineering, or Business degree from an accredited college or university or possess related field experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with audiences that include but are not limited to management, coworkers, clients, vendors, contractors, and visitors
  • Ability to attend to detail and work in a time-conscious and time-effective manner
  • Highly motivated, with a demonstrated passion for excellence and taking initiative
  • Strong work ethic, willing to do what it takes to get the job done right the first time, including rotating schedules, shift work, or weekend work as required by projects
  • Demonstrated commitment to ethics and integrity
  • Passion for safety, with the ability to help us ensure that nobody gets hurt
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Team player with the ability to work independently to meet deadlines, goals, and objectives
  • Willingness to work in the many different aspects of construction
  • Regular, reliable attendance
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License
