About the job: The Veterinary Assistant position will assist the hospital in delivering excellent care to all of our patients within the hospital. Perform Veterinary Assistant duties pursuant to Veterinary Emergency Care @Lowry Protocols. Embodies the culture in treating every client with the utmost courteous and attentive treatment possible, with a keen sensitivity to the emotional bond between owners and their pets.
How you'll make a difference:
- Monitor and appropriately document patient vital signs and activity
- Provide support to all veterinarians and veterinary technicians
- Provide comfort, diagnostic, surgical and nursing care to all patients including critical care patients
- Obtain and prepare samples for diagnostic testing including but not limited to blood draws, arterial blood gas sampling, urinary catheter sampling and free catch urine
- Perform various laboratory procedures including but not limited to blood typing, cross matching, and slide agglutination testing
- Accurately take and process abdominal, thoracic, appendicular, spinal, and skull radiograph while following appropriate radiation safety protocols
- Properly use and maintain medical equipment
- Provide professional client communication
What you will bring:
- Experience working as a Veterinary Assistant for 1+ years in ICU/ER setting
- A strong desire to learn and apply knowledge/skills learned to daily work life
- Ability to communicate effectively both written and oral
- Ability to demonstrate technical procedures as outlined in the technician protocols
- Demonstrate reliability and follow-through with all work-related tasks / projects
Schedule: Sunday - Wednesday or Wednesday - Saturday, 6AM - 4PM
Salary: $22 - $28 / hour based on experience
