Occupational Medicine Coordinator

 

Job Summary:

The Occupational Medicine Coordinator (OMC) is a multi-skilled professional who works independently with other healthcare professionals to coordinate the delivery of quality healthcare to the patient. The OMC is able to perform both administrative and clinical skills in the medical environment for efficient and effective day to day functions of the clinic.

 

Reports to: Physician Supervisor, Director of Outpatient Services

 

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Facilitate the coordination of care between the patient, healthcare team, employer and the workers’ compensation carrier.
  2. Answer phones and schedule appointments including “reminder” phone calls for next day and follow up patients.
  3. Greet patients, complete registration forms and provide instruction as needed.
    • Ensure collection of insurance information and co-pays.
    • Ensure accuracy of patient demographics.
  4. Scan and maintain medical records.
    • Prepare new charts or pull existing charts in advance for scheduled visits.
    • Maintain medical records (scanning of labs, DI exams, notes, referrals, transcriptions).
  5. Ensure communication and compliance with Colorado State Division of workers’ compensation guidelines.
  6. File and maintain worker’s compensation paperwork.
    • Follow up with appropriate paperwork to WC carrier.
    • Ensure proper codes and documentation are supplied by the physician.
  7. Perform general office functions.
    • Make copies and order office supplies.
    • Arrange for equipment servicing or repairs.
  8. Call in and appropriately document prescriptions and refills.

Clinical Job Functions:

  1. Function in the absence of the medical assistant.
    • Ability to place patients in a room and discharge them.
    • Ability to measure and record vital signs, including EKG’s.
    • Ability to fill out lab requisitions and track results.
    • Practice OSHA safety standards.
    • Perform other clinic duties that may be assigned.
  2. Demonstrate the spirit of the hospital’s philosophy, mission and values of the hospital through words and actions, implementing them into departmental processes, programs and the working environment.
    • Apply the principles and values of customer service and continuous quality improvement while performing day to day activities of the position.
    • Maintain and protect confidentiality regarding all aspects of patient care, personnel, and strategic issues, adhering to the confidentiality policy.
    • Maintain positive working relationships and foster a cooperative work environment. Adhering to the hospitals “Guidelines for Appropriate Conduct,” in the HR manual.
    • Display honesty and mutual respect when communicating with peers and other departments.
    • Follow through on problems that may compromise effective job performance by using appropriate chain of command.
  3. Utilize concepts of age/developmental stages in interactions with patients and families.
  4. Perform other duties that may be assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

 

Education: Highschool graduate, bachelor’s degree preferred

 

Certification/Licensure: Current CPR Certification

Experience, Knowledge and Training: Managerial skills or experience demonstrating progressive leadership roles. One (1) year’s recent experience in workman’s compensation or physician practice setting is helpful.

 

Physical Requirements:

This position requires lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling up to ten (10) plus pounds. Stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, grasping, handling, and balancing 5 or more hours per day. Sensory and communicative activities including hearing, seeing, and speaking to be able to carry out essential job functions.

 

Salary Range: $19.50-$30.44

 

Working Conditions/Environmental Exposures:

 

Environmental hazards such as chemicals, solvents, needles, needle containers, sharps, blood, body fluids, various infectious/communicable diseases, infectious medical waste, radiation, and/or radioactive materials and/or radioactive waste, proximity to moving mechanical parts.  Protective clothing/equipment may be necessary.

 

ASH IMMUNIZATIONS AND VACCINATIONS REQUIREMENTS– Aligns with CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) for Healthcare Personnel

 

Hepatitis B- Lab evidence of immunity to Hepatitis B or three doses Hep B vaccine at appropriate intervals

Influenza- mandatory from November 1st through March 31st each year 

Measles, Mumps, and Rubella - Lab evidence of immunity to Measles, Mumps, and Rubella or 2 doses of MMR Vaccination

Varicella (chickenpox) - Lab evidence of immunity to Varicella or 2 doses of Varicella Vaccine

Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis (Tdap) - documented proof of immunization

Tuberculosis Screening- All new-hires undergo a two-step TB skin test
