Chief Cook (Vessel)

Position Overview

The Chief Cook provisions, plans, prepares and presents nutritious and satisfying meals for the officers, crew and industrial workers on the launch and recovery vessel supporting manned space flight using spaceship Neptune and its twenty million cubic foot space balloon. This position is head of the steward department.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Manage the steward department budget, schedule and manning.
  • Professionally prepare three meals daily and provide continuous access to healthy snacks and beverages.
  • Maintain ship’s stores and provisions at adequate levels pursuant to the operating schedule.
  • Supervise loading stores and provisions and proper stowage.
  • Conformance with the CDC and FDA standards of facility sanitation and food preparation.
  • Respond to shipboard emergencies including fire, flood, toxic gas, man overboard and abandon ship, be able to administer first aid and CPR.
  • Display acute safety consciousness in every assigned task.
  • Enforce security measures.
  • Maintain the vessel in a consistently high condition of readiness and preservation.
  • Exemplify excellence and accountability for all work.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent certificate.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience with service on vessels.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Culinary school certificate.
  • 3+ years of experience in food preparation.
  • Yacht or cruise ship food service experience
