Cook duties and responsibilities

  • Assisting with stocking and setting up the kitchen stations by labeling and stocking all ingredients on shelves so they can be organized and easily accessible.
  • Preparing food including cleaning and cutting the ingredients and cooking main dishes, desserts, appetizers and snacks
  • Plating prepared foods based on senior chef’s guidance
  • Working with servers to ensure that orders are completed according to request and on time
  • Ensuring that the kitchen operation procedures and hygiene meet food safety standards and regulations
  • Follow the prep list created to plan duties.
  • Measure ingredients and seasonings to be used in cooking.
  • Set up workstations and ingredients so that food can be prepared according to recipes.
  • Undertake basic cooking duties, such as reducing sauces and parboiling food.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly kitchen by washing dishes, cleaning the kitchen and cooking utensils, sanitizing surfaces, and taking out trash during and at the end of shifts
  • Ensure that all food and other items are stored properly.
  • Perform other kitchen duties as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.

Expectations:

  • 1+ years experience in food service in a fast paced restaurant/bar environment
  • Valid Illinois Food Handlers certification
  • Good math skills with a clear understanding of cooking measurements
  • Strong sense of smell and taste
  • Excellent organizational, time management and multitasking skills
  • Be able to communicate and understand the predominant language(s) of our staff.
  • Be able to work in a standing position for long periods of time (from 4 to 8 hours).
  • Effective customer service & problem solving skills
  • Flexible schedule
  • Be a team player
