In this role, as Refugee Resettlement Caseworker at the International Institute of Southwest Missouri, you will have the opportunity to make a tangible impact on the lives of refugees who have experienced displacement and hardship. You will be instrumental in fostering a safe and supportive environment for their successful resettlement in Springfield, MO.


The purpose of the Refugee Resettlement Caseworker is to provide intensive case management services primarily during the first 90 days from a refugee's date of arrival. You will provide direct support and guidance to refugees, helping them access essential services, find housing, enroll in English language classes, and navigate the complex resettlement process. Your empathetic and customer-centric approach will be key to ensuring their smooth integration into the community.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Welcome newly arriving refugee families and individuals in order to help them get off to a great start in building their new lives; this position is the first point of contact for our newly arrived families.

  • Maintain regular communication with clients.
  • Provide community orientation, advice, and assistance in addressing basic needs.
  • Assess refugee individual/family needs and address barriers to successful resettlement.
  • Encourage participants to work towards self-sufficiency and early employment.
  • Perform home visits and evaluations during resettlement period.
  • As appropriate and needed, provide client transportation using own vehicle.
  • Maintain and complete detailed and accurate records.
  • Provide interpretation as needed for resettlement department staff and clients.
  • Work within a diverse staff team; providing services across departments.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all client information
  • Perform other appropriate duties as assigned.

ABILITIES

  • Ability to diffuse client complaints/conflicts.
  • Understand and adhere to professional boundaries.
  • Knowledge of community resources
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, as necessary.
  • Ability to work productively in a multicultural environment and demonstrate respect for differences.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in English both orally and in writing.
  • Fluency in a language spoken by the current refugee population is highly preferred. (Dari, Pashto, Arabic, Kinyarwanda, Swahili, Nepali, Amharic, Tigrinya; and/or Somali preferred)
  • Work occasional weekends and nights.
  • Must have a car and valid driver's license with proof of insurance.
  • Willing to obtain a MO chauffeur license.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Two-year degree in relevant Human Service field required or equivalent experience in social services or other relevant area.
