Thompson First Group is currently seeking a qualified Controls Engineer for a local client in Glen Rock, PA. Candidates who have a background working as a Controls Engineer in an industrial setting are encouraged to apply.

Job Summary:

  • Maintain and develop machine automation and control systems, lead and execute projects, and support Maintenance with technically difficult troubleshooting as directed by the Engineering Manager Essential Functions:
  • Lead and execute projects primarily involving control systems, drives, HMIs, machine networks, electrical power distribution, and software programming as directed by the Engineering Manager.
  • Provide design input and review for equipment specifications and installations. Interface with engineering, contractors, vendors, OEMs and design firms as needed.
  • Maintain backups, recovery instructions, firmware and documentation of automation and control systems throughout the facility.
  • Identify and resolve safety hazards and risks, especially those related to machine controls.
  • Identify obsolescence risks and recommend solutions.
  • Provide automation, controls and electrical expertise to Manufacturing and Maintenance departments.
  • Provide instruction to mechanics and other associates to develop their understanding and expertise.
  • Read and understand ladder logic and other programming methods, detail design drawings and instrument manuals.
  • Draft equipment operating instructions, lockout/tagout procedures, and preventative maintenance procedures associated with assigned projects.
  • Communicate effectively with Engineers, Supervisors, Product Development Scientists and other associates.
  • Conduct all aspects of position in a professional, respectful manner consistent with Guiding Principles; embrace 6S LEAN culture; organize personal work areas and appearance consistent with corporate and divisional professional image. Additional Responsibilities: Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Job Specifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 10 years as an Industrial Maintenance Mechanic with training and experience in PLC's/HMI's, control system design, facilities maintenance, industrial machinery repair and preventive maintenance.
  • Experience in Allen Bradley automation and control systems preferred.
  • Experience with AC, DC, servo and stepper motors and drives.
  • State-Local Certified / Licensed Master Electrician preferred.
  • Strong decision making, problem solving, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Computer literate with proficiency in automation systems, especially HMI and PLC development software.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and AutoCAD.
  • Familiarity with NFPA 70 (NEC) and NFPA 70E (Electrical safe work practices).
  • Dexterity and ability to operate power, machine and equipment installation tools, multimeter and oscilloscope.
  • Must be capable of working in adverse, ambient conditions: non-routine work schedules: and be able to respond to call-ins.
  • Self-motivated and team-oriented with the ability to work with minimal direction/supervision.
  • Must communicate fluently in English and have legible handwriting.
  • Must keep customer information confidential.
  • Must comply with company safety rules
