About being our Biology Intern

As a Biology Intern, you will utilize your expertise to assist the Senior Biologist with vegetation mapping, wildlife surveys and monitoring, along with report preparation and other assigned duties.


Responsibility Highlights for our Biology Intern

  • Providing database searches using California Natural Diversity Database (CNDDB) and California Native Plant Society (CNPS)
  • Assisting Botanists with vegetation mapping
  • Supporting Wildlife Biologist with general wildlife surveys
  • Preparing plant and wildlife compendium (reviewed by senior staff)
  • Conducting focused wildlife surveys
  • Aiding in restoration ecology monitoring efforts
  • Writing technical reports (reviewed by senior staff)
  • Coordinating with project team members

Minimum Qualifications to be our Biology Intern

  • Working towards bachelor's or advanced degree in Biology, Botany, or related field with 0 to 2 years' experience
  • Awareness of California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and Endangered Species Act (ESA)
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Proficient computer skills
  • Proficient time-management skills (i.e., efficient, organized, and the ability to prioritize)
  • Detail-oriented (without losing sight of the big picture)
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills; team player with professional attitude
  • Proactive, self-motivated and dedicated
  • Ability to work outdoors for extended periods of time while hiking

Preferred Qualifications to be our Biology Intern

  • Knowledge of common plant and wildlife species
  • Knowledge of common habitat types of the region (e.g. coastal sage scrub, riparian, grassland)
