We currently have an opportunity for an experienced structural engineer to join our Michigan Region based in either Lansing or Farmington Hills. The Structural Team provides inspection, assessment, design, and construction phase services for MDOT and local clients who own and maintain bridges and other transportation structures throughout Michigan. This position performs engineering design, manages projects and assists with business development efforts.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provides technical leadership and project management for structural engineering projects throughout the region.
  • Performs structural analysis for design of new and existing transportation structures (bridges, foundations, retaining walls, and culverts) and vertical building structures as required.
  • Performs field services for bridge and culvert scoping and inspection, and other structures as required.
  • Drafts reports and engineer’s cost estimates for structural projects.
  • Develops high level design criteria and assigns tasks to other staff to produce construction drawings and bid documents.
  • Leads or assists with scope and fee negotiations and any contract amendments as needed.
  • Ensures QC/QA processes are implemented and followed for all team projects.
  • Assists with the development and mentoring of Jr. staff in the Structures Team.
  • Collaborates on project pursuits with BD staff and develops relationships with existing clients and prospects.
  • Maintains knowledge and education on technological innovations and regulatory changes that impact the transportation sector within Michigan.

Position Requirements

  • B.S. degree in Structural or Civil Engineering and MI PE license are required. SE license is desirable.
  • 10+ years of experience with the design of transportation structures[RR2] and vertical building structures.
  • Strong knowledge of MDOT’s Bridge Design Manual/Bridge Design Details and application procedures is required, and knowledge of NBIS standards is desired.
  • Demonstrated project management experience including development of scope, schedule, and budget. Previous experience with Deltek Vision/Vantagepoint is desirable.
  • Experience working with clients in the Michigan public sector (state and local agencies).
  • Must be knowledgeable with the capabilities and use of a variety of structural design and modeling software including MicroStation, , , Open Bridge Designer, and AASHTOWare BrR Bridge Rating. Knowledge of STAAD.PRO is desired.
  • Ability to effectively pursue new projects and develop/maintain relationships with prospects and existing clients.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to conduct effective client presentations and prepare written reports.
  • Valid driver’s license and the ability to travel to client and project sites as needed.
