JOB TITLE: Family Support Specialist DEPT: Early Learning Division

REPORTS TO: Family Support Manager FLSA: Non-Exempt


JOB SUMMARY: To work as part of a collaborative team providing support to the Family Service component. Work closely with the Family Services Manager, Site Managers, and Family Advocates to ensure compliance with the Head Start Performance Standards, funding sources, and local mandates in the content area of family partnerships and engagement, community resources and collaborations, training and mentoring, monitoring and reporting, and providing best practices in working with families.

CHILDREN SUPERVISION RESPONSIBILITY: Responsible for child supervision and for keeping children safe.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Ensure compliance in the Family Support component through monitoring of files, ensure data entry into Child Plus or other data collection system, review documentation and mandated forms included but not limited to Family Development Plans, Family Outcomes, Home Visits, referrals, etc.
  2. Assist Family Advocates with engaging parents in family activities and events, including parent meetings and Policy Council.
  3. Provide support and assistance to Family Advocates and Site Managers and also provide results of ongoing Family Services monitoring efforts to ensure compliance.
  4. Serve as a peer mentor/coach as needed to Family Advocates in their role of working with families.
  5. Prepare accurate weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports documenting Family Service compliances.
  6. Provide support and coordination of parent orientation sessions at the site level.
  7. Assist with related component activities and events, including Social Service Advisory, Resource Fairs, Recruitment Events, related component events, etc.
  8. Seek opportunities to develop and maintain relationships with local and state community partners and also provide referral information to Family Advocates.
  9. Support and facilitate meetings/trainings for Family Advocates and parents as needed.
  10. Attend and participate in staff/team meetings, workshops and community events, as well as outside training opportunities as required by the supervisor.
  11. Participate in the Family Development Credential certification (if applicable).
  12. Adhere to Alliance for Community Empowerment Inc. policies and procedures related to prevention and response to COVID-19, including participating in training, use of PPE, implementation of universal precautions, social distancing, and keeping workspace clean.
  13. Assist with daily health screening and monitoring as related to COVID-19.
  14. Perform other work-related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Human Services, or related field with at least two years of experience in Human Services or related field.
  • In lieu of Bachelor’s degree, Associates in Human Services or related field with minimum of four years of experience in Human Services or related field.
  • Ability to collaborate with and have working knowledge of local community resources.
  • Knowledge and experience in data collection and information processes and systems along with knowledge of childcare regulations, policy and procedure compliance.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to interface with parents, program staff, community partners, and children.
  • Must have strong computer skills and knowledge of various processes including database management, spreadsheet, word processing, internet and email.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage a complex work load and deadlines.
  • Ability to train and provide presentations to large and small groups as well as individuals.
  • Must obtain knowledge of Federal Head Start Performance Standards, philosophy, and mission.
  • Valid Connecticut Driver’s license and a good driving record are required.
