Forestry Intern

INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTION

The Forestry Intern is a full time, temporary member of the Operations team at Blue Ridge Energy from mid-May through mid-August. The intern will be responsible for researching and assisting in the implementation of assigned projects and tasks that will assist in achieving the operations vegetation management strategic goals and objectives.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT

Must have a high school diploma or equivalent. Candidates who have enrolled in or completed a forestry program preferred.

ABILITIES AND SKILLS

• Must be able to demonstrate basic knowledge of tree work and a basic understanding of tree species.
• Must be comfortable traveling throughout Blue Ridge Energy service areas.
• Must be able to read, interpret, comprehend, and follow instructions from technical data.
• Must have ability to implement work plans, make sound decisions from observations, and carry out instructions.
• Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
• Must be able to work with little supervision and be proactive in responsibilities.
• Must possess a strong ability to communicate in both verbal and written form and basic computer skills.
• Must be self-driven and demonstrate strong organizational skills.
• Must have the ability to think critically and utilize problem-solving skills.
• Must be able to work in harmony with many different personality types to accomplish goals and achieve successful results.
• Must be able to strongly adhere to safe work practices.

QUALIFICATIONS

The intern will be employed by and paid by a temporary employment agency; therefore, candidates must meet the requirements of Blue Ridge Energy and the hiring agency. The individual should have a valid US driver's license, good driving record, and pass a pre-employment screening that includes a background check and drug screen. Some travel, within our service area, during and after hours, may be required. Intern must follow company safety standards.
