Responsibilities:

  • Proactively offer help and take initiative to support the completion of departmental tasks, contributing to overall team efficiency.


  • Oversee pneumatic tube and courier deliveries to ensure timely processing of specimens, addressing any delays or issues promptly.


  • Investigate and resolve any issues with specimen requests or problems, completing quality forms for unacceptable specimens or errors, and ensuring proper handling and storage.


  • Perform centrifugation, label aliquot tubes, and transfer samples according to policy. Ensure specimens are stored at the correct temperature and enter receive times into the computer system.


  • Respond to telephone inquiries regarding specimen collection, results, and normal ranges, providing accurate and helpful information.


  • Adhere to health and safety regulations concerning biohazardous materials and sharps, ensuring proper handling and minimizing exposure risks.


  • Verify specimens against requisitions or labels, prepare and send specimens to outside locations, disinfect work areas, and assist with the orientation and training of new staff while performing routine technical and clerical duties as needed.


Required:



  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Good oral and written communication skills

Preferred:



  • Three to six months of experience in a clinical laboratory, physician's office, or other medical environment preferred, including knowledge of or experience in Medical Terminology and Laboratory Information systems.
  • Three to six months of experience in a service environment including call center, customer service center, or product distribution/fulfillment center preferred. . 
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all age groups and populations of external and internal customers (as well as co-workers) both by telephone and in person.
